No Test match in 2008 for Pakistan

This year will be remembered for a long time by Pakistani cricket fans. This year Pakistan won’t play a single test match. :frowning:

In 8 months they haven’t played much One Day cricket either. They played some 15 ODIs mostly against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and a couple against India. And it seems no other teams besides these three are willing to play Pakistan.

I think PCB has hit hard bottom.

What’s your thoughts on this?

We were just talking about it (in chat). Pakistan has really struggled to put any decent amount of interest out there but it is not entirely a fault of their own. Recent bomb blasts and assassination have hampered the scheduling and tournaments and a part of it is also the quickness which other boards have shown and the unsporting behavior with which they have conducted their professionalism, or certainly the lack of. This year will end with another full series with India.

My concern lies for next year, and beyond. The circumstances are probably not going to change, there will always be a threat involved, be it smaller or larger. One has to justify the fact that anything can happen to anyone regardless of the location. I have a hard time believing that Australia will come for a half-series next year, and PCB cannot do much about it if another bomb goes off days before their arrival. The likelihood of Champions Trophy being conducted next year is not as believable as perhaps it should be. First ICC scraped Rawalpindi off the list of venues since no Asia Cup match was held in that ground. Secondly, the date of 9/11 was changed to 9/12. Those obviously were things that were done to hold the tournament in Pakistan, and it got to nowhere in the end.

But in any case, Pakistan cricket is in tatters, and situation in the country have not helped it get better. The boards are resting their players for important series, and we are left with India to compete against, and Bangladesh will say yes, as usual.

The situation in Pakistan aside, Pakistan haven't played much cricket outside of Pak either. The point is no team is willing to play them either in Pakistan or out of Pakistan.

I have been seeing a similiar tone throughout the forum. One cannot justify the fact that anything can happen to anyone regardless of the location. Nowadays, there is a suicide bomb or blast with the Taliban claiming responsibility almost every single day. The news reports Pakistan under the same breath as Iraq and Afghanistan. When they say terrorism, it is usually associated with Pakistan. SO its time to wake up and see the reality, I think ICC has been laying low to avoid upsetting Pakistan, they did not change the venue but postponed it. These other cricketers dont believe the fear that they might have to go through (or even their lives) for a game of cricket is worth it. When they are there, there is definitely going to be terrorist attacks, they will read/see it in the news, do you think they want to be in an environment like that? It is a unstable country and if something were to happen, and again chances are higher than any other location, nobody will tour Pakistan in a long long time.

other teams have had their own tours, they are not like India where they arrange a tour when they have a week off hehe.
But Pakistan are going to play in a series out of pakistan soon, couple of teams were interested I believe.

I think we should start preparing our cricket team members to adapt different careers before it is too late :hmmm:

Re: No Test match in 2008 for Pakistan

Just arrange more away tours coz not many TEST playing nations want to tour Pakistan anytime soon even for an ODI series.

Re: No Test match in 2008 for Pakistan

i think PCB should join up with uae and start hosting series in dubai/sharjah, yea they wont make as much money as they would if it was hosted at home, but its better than not playing any cricket at all.
