On cellphones, of course. You can yap all you want with live people in your car.
This news came out yesterday that the National Safety Council (yes, the same friendly folks who forcefully lobbied to have seat belt laws all across the US), have now made it their recommendation that the federal government ban all cellphone use in the cars - including handsfree devices.
Ouch!
Brings me back to my favorite nut-behind-the-wheel theory that moronic drivers are largely uncontrollable, plus its futile to legislate stupidity. Still even banning handsfree (Cal is already cellphone and TXT free state) is taking the cake.
Why stop there? Why not mandate that drivers can not be disturbed by fellow pessangers, no yelling kids in the back, no radio controls to fiddle around, no airconditioning switches to change and the worst offender, have no object fall down to which the driver needs to reach down and pick up (while driving). I see drivers singing out loud when they are driving alone in their cars, presumably to vent while protecting others from their horrendous voices. Should that be banned too. Most bad singers have limited capacity to learn lyrics and we don’t want more accidents because the driver was concentrating too hard to rhyme (aik larki ko dekha tau aisa laga, jaisay …).
Anyway, puns aside… this has the potential for a really bad news for folks like me, who actually use the commute time to catch up on missed phone calls.
Where is Kaleem (our favorite Texan Republican) when you need him!

^ Problem is that they can make the law making talking on cellphones illegal. Enforcement is something else. They don't have to jam the signals.
Just as speeding is against the law, and wearing seatbelts is required by law ... while you won't get caught everytime you break the law, this is something that you have to give up or be constantly under the risk of a ticket. Both are unappetizing options.

Beautiful :biggthumb .. perfectly explain a real desi girl !
Depends on how severe the consequences could be in any kind of offense, if they are okay with simply making the laws and catching a few lawbreakers and collecting few bucks then all right with them, but if they are really honest in avoiding something incorrect to happen, then they need to think far from just the making of laws! ... They gotta stop the crime, not the criminal!
Yeah, why would they want to risk losing all the traffic tickets by jamming cellphone signals? Plus, its only the driver who is disallowed from using the cellphone. Other passengers in the car are still free to yap all they want with their cellphone buddies.

Its not some rocket science, and its not some immigration laws which are made and implemented with 100% votes! These traffic laws are for domestic drivers who are citizens of the country and pay the taxes, they need to think twice before making or changing any law which might disturb the luxury of the citizens! They need to provide solid reasons before they implement any new rule! They need to study and get the data from the road and need to prove their point!
We are hearing this banning on cell while driving since last 7-8 years, but its not done yet!
Get the facts, there are trillions cars on the road in every seconds, and most of the drivers do use the cell while driving, and hence the telecommunication companies are making billions or whatever daily! They are not going to lose that amount , will they ? If thats the so called 'revenue source case' then the state might be getting much more than what they will get from the tickets! ... gottcha?
These telecom giants will not let it go so easily! unless the state convince them with the facts and data!
Banning even the handsfree devices! I think those Health & safety nutters taking it too far this time. What next! outlaw in-car satellite navigation as well?
well in one long line, I said they need to come with some alternative solution other than banning the cell of driver... while passenger can still divert his attention while talking high with wife or low with friend!
Females should be banned from wearing bikinis and skimpy/suggestive dresses while out in the public near any street, highway, freeway. They are the main cause of accidents in the state of californication
