for some reason i can’t get any sound out of my laptop speakers, i’ve tried everything from running windows update, to checking control panel sound setting, still nothing. I even played a cd but still no sound, i rebooted and still nothing, but i get an error rundll32.exe error, how do i correct this?

Try to reinstall the Audio device drivers. They can be located from Manufacturer’s website section of Support and Drivers.

What If you plug in some earphones? Do you get any sound out of 'em?

what are you trying to run?
If the only video you cant run with the sound may be because its mpg4, if not, than reinstall your sound driver.

^He said he also tried to play some music from a CD in his original post. So it’s definitely not just mp4.

Anyway, OP try out the earphones. If there is sound, then it might be a hardware issue and not a driver issue.
