During his India yatra Altaf Hussain seeks easier asylum in India for his supporters which met with cold shoulders from India side says weekly South Asia Tribune. Indian Foreign Ministry officials told South Asia Tribune that Altaf Hussain also revealed that a large number of his Mohajir community wanted to return to India and most of then wanted Indian citizenship back. I am a resident of Karachi. I am living within the Mohajir community. When I came to Karachi in 1962 I found every fourth house in Drigh Colony, Nazimabad and Dastgir Colony in Karachi having name plate as “Alig”. It was quite impressing in these colonies highly educated people from Aligarh university lives. With the passage of time and with each passing day getting life and working experience it dawned the way of talking, way of working of majority of them did not reflect they were actually university educated. When in seventies relations with India were restored again my department advised all these Alighs that since now they were able to get their degrees from India they should so that their personal files are completed. None of these brought rather tried to bring; some forgot their roll numbers, some other particulars etc. These so-called Mohajirs, not all but majority who in pre partition left their “Gardens of Podina” in India today have big houses, high salaries jobs all over the country. None of them would ever wish to go back to India. This is just a black mailing or political Pataha. This will prove if a self explanatory test is carried out which is an honest survey is carried out based on officially recorded immigration figures on both sides that how many Indians came to Pakistan during last 5 years and how many for the same period from Pakistan and to India. And how many returned back to their country. Result will be self speaking. There is another test. See how many Indian relatives get their daughters married in Pakistan due to poverty and how many these even after 58 years so called Pakistan mohajirs get their daughters married with their Indian relatives youngs in India. Results would be self explanatory. Altaf Hussain says his Supporters will go to India. None will ever. Because these supporters (party workers) today are playing with millions in Karachi and Hyderabad due to their Bhutta/Monthly income. Karachi Water Board, Karachi Steel Mills, Karachi Municipality, Karachi Electric each has hundreds of ghost workers all MQM. This was more than 1500 in steel mills thank General Sabih who pulled them out. How these ghosts working on papers would like go India to work with hands. MQM can be well understood from that on chance it brought a Governor on whom there are dozens of cases, how is absconder in files. MQM could not find a gentleman for this post. I am myself a resident of Karachi and I know how many times in a years we ordinary house holders are to give Bhutta in one name or the other. None of these Bhutta seekers would ever like to go to India leaving this free heaven.

Altaf Hussain does not represent the people of Karachi, even the so called "mohajir" population. like every political party he's got his own motives and agenda. who are these people he claims to be representing, whom he says would like to go to india, i'd surely like to see because i for one think that no one would want to. most people dom't care about these issues that he chooses to highlight. the people in karachi face the same problems that people in all of Pakistan do. roti kapra aur makaan. most of our political leaders, including Altaf Hussain, fail to address these issues and choose to focus on non issues to gain political points.
Question.. What percentage of the Mohajir community are actually affiliated with the MQM? How big is MQM's reach? I heard the MQM now extort money from Mohajirs for protection or something... Is this true and if it is then why hasnt Altaf done anything about it?

What exactly does Altaf think the Indians will provide the Mohajir community? Economically Mohajirs seem to have a certain amount of control in Karachi. In India they will have nothing.
All one might find in India is an identity, but its hard to believe that Mohajirs from Karachi could ever fit into Indian society once again. Most of todays Mohajirs probably never even seen India let alone hope to integrae into it.
mian Altaf bhai has wide support of karachi uneducated population.....not only mohajirs- but also pathans, punjabis and sindhis have joined hands with him aginst pakistans intersts....
