I’m about three weeks late on my cycle… went to see the gyn today… upon doing an ultrasound he concluded that my endometrial lining was thin but he seemed confused, saying normally you can tell if the period is on its way and said that if I don’t get AF in 2-3 weeks which he said appears to be a huge possibility, then he’ll prescribe me progesterone to bring on my periods.
This is very unsettling to me… I don’t want to have to take hormones just to do what should be happening naturally on a regular basis.
Hmmm yeah thats not really fixing the problem... and thats what bothers me. Say if I stop taking these pills.. what, ill never have a period naturally then? It's a bit unsettling. I want a cure, not just treatment :(
unfortunately there is no permanent cure. You are on them for a specific time period until your period are normal, then eventually you come off and hopefully they will stay regular. You also have to watch your diet and exercise on regular basis. Meds, diet, and exercise together makes lot of difference.
PCOS is associated with anovulation. If you aren't ovulating, you will not get your period. Progesterone is given in an attempt to correct the hormonal imbalance. Even a short course of this will hopefully be enough to put your cycle back in sync and then hope that it is able to regulate itself.
I agree with the above post. It is crucial and yet highly underemphasized that if you have PCOS, you must take care of your diet and control weight. Often times, losing weight is enough to regularize cycles.
Also, make sure you monitor and record the frequency and durations of your period. You should be completely aware of your cycle.
