and the most awful suggestion i have find so far is to look for someone online.

honestly guys you haven't faced the situation where your friends as you "k tumhara dil nahi kerta k tumhara bf/(or in guys case gf) ho"....honestly WTH.
i cant even imagine any guy controlling my life (especially before marriage, after marriage i understand that you have to compromise) k yeh kero wo na kero....how on earth those women handled these bf-gf kinda fake relationships.
