No Matches being played in Sharjah

As I was reading this article i felt a bit sad. As a kid I have had very fond memories of seeing the matches in this stadium (Especially the 1986 one). The atmosphere for games in Sharjah is the best I have ever seen…I hope Inda and Pakistan Play in Sharjah soon…

**Sharjah fans left in the cold By Martin Gough **

While fans in Pakistan last year, and India next month, have happily greeted the return of tours between the arch-rivals, one fanatical group of supporters has been left in the cold.

Government relations prohibited India to host or visit Pakistan for much of the 1990s and the first part of this century, and in the meantime Sharjah prospered.

Between 1984 and 2003, the stadium in the Arabian desert hosted 198 full one-day internationals - more than Lord’s and the Melbourne Cricket Ground combined.

Re: No Matches being played in Sharjah

OK thanks - thats good to know - but when I went there the ground was in bad shape !

Re: No Matches being played in Sharjah

man I havent seen the ground for ages. Last time i saw it was 1997- Hows the new Abu Dhabi Cricket stadium

Re: No Matches being played in Sharjah

I drove past that stadium a few time during my visit. It looks magnificent amd the locals who have been inside, tell me that its as state of the art as it gets ! IMHO, Sharjah with its unglamorous image as a city will need to do something spectacular to get International cricket back on it.

Also note that last year, Pak and Ind almost played a ODI (s) there - but the BCCI stopped it for scheduling reasons ( I think )
