in old rural areas a lot of Muslims had NO surname…they usually had two names…like:
father’s name: Haseen Ahmad
First son’s name: Ahmad shakeel
second son’s name: Umar fazeel
third son’s name: Mohammad Kafeel
here, the emphasis was rhyming names rather than a last name…they ALL had two names.
now in subsequent generations they may have names like:
first grandson’s name : Ali AsGhar
second grandson’s name: Ali Ahmad
third grandson’s name: Ali moHammad
