Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
will terrorist militants listen to him and leave? :)
I wish they do.
forget them, would anyone listen to cowasjee and leave? I mean whoever wants to go, is out or is trying. Its not like someone who is happy, content and successful in pakistan reads cowasjee's column and runs to US embassy instead of going to work on Monday :D
Well of course nobody will leave Pakistan just by reading the article, the article shows that the "get out of Pakistan" is not just a low-level thought anymore, now even sane writers are saying it, unfortunately.
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
cowasjee longs for the days when goras were master and natives knew their place and parsee groups could make money by getting special concessions from goras. the karachi that cowasjee reminisces about was a city of less than 500k people completely under the gora thumb. within a span of two generations after freedom, karachi has become a city of 16mm people who belong to 6 or 7 ethnic groups and who largely live in harmony. huge number of karachi residents have never lived in a city before. nor do people running the city have had any experience of governing. moreover std of living in karachi is equal to if not better than any other mega city of subcontinent. logically speaking then, all the 1.5bn people living in the subcontinent would have to leave if cowasjee's advice was valid.

Before insulting him, it would be best to actually find out about him
He has done more for Pakistan than all on this board combined. He is also a very wise man, so when he says something like this, it should not be taken lightly, or just dismissed. :(
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
If Western countries granted visas to all Pakistani's applying, there would barely be anybody left in Pakistan
yes, if the western countries granted visas to all the people belonging to any country in asia, the middle east, the mother russia, all the hispanic countries, the african continent there would barely be anybody left around the world.

maybe, but there is no doubt Pakistan is in worse shape than most of those
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
maybe,
not maybe but most definatly
but there is no doubt Pakistan is in worse shape than most of those
Pakistan is not in worse shape than most of the places I mentioned. Actully most of those countries are in worse shape. With hunger wiping out their cities, rapidily spreading STDs, economy collapses, tyrant dictators commiting mass genocides just to name the few. We are miles and miles away from anything as such. thank god. All we have is a small populace who likes to blow stuff up...including themselves.

Apart from a few 'non-existent' African countries such as Somalia,Sudan, Pakistan is not ahead of anybody
just look at the literacy rate, as one example, even Bangladesh is higher!!
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
I don't think he means it literally guys. I think he's trying to point out that Pakistan politics is at its most vulnerable right now, and the country has a serious threat. He probably fears another Afghanistan-Taliban situation, like many people.
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
No. He's saying that Musharraf is absolutely the worst ruler (stand up Benazir haters) we have had in 60 years. Jinnah predicted as much 60 years ago.
Thats your bias and that's what you are reading into the statement. Your bias is not the truth.
His point is this: Pakistanis will believe anything as long as it bring about the change of govt. because for them (Pakistanis), it will cure all Pakistan's problems.
He is just tired of the naivette displayed by the people and he is playing on their fear. His fear that mullahtic loonies could overthrow the current secular govt. is genuine and all that Jinnah held dear will be lost.
Not every bad tidings is an anti-musharraf statement. Don't get excited over these things. These are very turbulent times in Pakistan and many people will say many things. Next time you feel confused, just ask us.
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
What he is trying to explain is that Musharraf not being the political leader is not the future, unless he leaves army. Moreover, the political parties have no alternative. Completely agree with him, but pack up and leave is little over exaggeration.
Re: No hope for Pakistan; get out when you can: Cowasjee
when is cowasjee leaving? or is he afraid of going to some other country and being a bit player and nto have teh statute that he has?
as far as get out while you can, that sort of talk has been around since I can recall i.e. 80's, and as I hear my elders speak about events it appears that this talk had been around before that too.
Absolutely right!! My family hates this parsi fello. I can tell you from a lot of his articles that he is not that patriotic- he wasn't ever a patriotic person. If he wants to leave the country and go to Bombay- a city parsis love to visit anytime, he should please take Irfan Hussain and Ayaz Amir with him- Pakistan doesn't need journalists who always love to criticize and our precious Islamic institutions.

If given the choice, Talat Hussain would leave for his taleban ruled afghi. Poor guy couldn't stomach watching mullhatic loonies getting an (much deserved) a$$ whuppin'.

Then how do you explain this?

Jinnah said, ‘Each successive government in this country would be worse than the previous one,’ and his prediction is coming true,” Cowasjee said. “In the very first article that I wrote after the entire judicial crisis started in March, I told Musharraf: ‘A good soldier always knows when to retreat.’ Retreat, damn you, the time has come!”
