Re: No city in Pakistan on this List of 50 most violent cities in the World!
It has nothing to do with religion. The drug cartels (who literally own the top cities in this list) are merciless beyond human imagination.
For more updates, please contact netflix for the show ‘Breaking bad’
Re: No city in Pakistan on this List of 50 most violent cities in the World!
Question comes to mind.......Did the show "Breaking Bad" inspire those violent Drug Cartels?
Judging from the awards it got here seems the US Population and the Hollywood crowd they seem to like this disgusting show Breaking Bad ....Why?
Cartels have been there since forever. And they aint going anywhere too. May be their interference on US soil can be lessened. But if you just visit El paso, you can feel them in the air.
Now regarding Breaking Bad, its certainly one of the best shows by many means so the cherish isnt surprising. Even though i think they should've finished it in season 4. Season 5 was just a useless extension

The Mexican case of students being killed on the orders of the mayor was terrifying and I hope even in our sheer lawlessness we haven't reached the point where people can be killed so mercilessly.
Re: No city in Pakistan on this List of 50 most violent cities in the World!
The list ranks on the basis of murders per hundred thousand. All of these cities are less densely populated than cities in the sub-continent which would make that ratio low. Here is a better ranking -

interesting quote from this website:
....The rankings were based on the murder rate per capita during the last years.....
Yes, that's the standard metric used to compare crime rate.
However, if you compare a densely populated mega-city like Karachi (population 24 Million) with St. Louis, USA (population 318 thousand) on that metric it will not tell you the complete story. To use that metric, like cities should be compared.

Just saying that your 'better' rankings uses the same metric as supposedly used in the OP.
I would agree the OP rankings are heavily lopsided for (North and South) American cities. Home bias or lack of availability of data for other continents might be the cause.
Anyways, for situation like Pakistan, 'murder' might not include those killed in terrorist attacks. :(

Got it. I meant "better" rankings in terms of comparability of city size.
Re: No city in Pakistan on this List of 50 most violent cities in the World!
Wide range for Karachi population. 14 to 21 mill. Wonder what was used in denominator to get to 12.8 per 10000.
Mexico City 1.3 million pop (is it that low) And 148 per 100000. Even if same at of murders occur with 10 fold increase in population rate is 14.8 per 10000. Now we r talking large city and > Karachi rate.
Re: No city in Pakistan on this List of 50 most violent cities in the World!
hmm, I am going to be very skeptical about this “report”. This is the original source of this slide show; Por cuarto año consecutivo, San Pedro Sula es la ciudad más violenta del mundo . Most countries around the world do not keep an accurate record for the number of homicides, some of them do not even have National ID cards to help keep statistics. Not sure if they have kept all these variables in mind while writing this. I wonder if they really did go through all the countries in the world to get an accurate assessment.
Are there more surveys, and assessments, of this kind ?
