Has anyone followed this type of plan, I don’t want to call it a diet, just a lifestyle thing. I know people who do the raw food thing and eat mainly salads, fruits and veggies, but also meat. Does anyone recommend this or have you tried it? What are some meals based around this diet? What are some important foods to consume? I love salads and grilled chicken, love fruit. I eat all the good stuff, but don’t want to snack anymore.
Veggies aren’t very filling, unless you eat a bowl of raw carrots continually throughout the day. But I know girls who’ve turned orange because of that.
You can't not eat carbs saima...your body needs carbs. Just stay away from refined flour ie no white flour, white bread, roti, cakes, muffins, croissants etc. there are so many grains apart from wheat that we can consume like millet, sorghum, barley, rye which are so good for you and full of fiber. Also when it comes to potatoes, sweet potatoes better than regular ones. White flour is the enemy, not carbs in general. You even find carbs in vegetables like broccoli - and you cant avoid that. Living in America you should know by know that Atkins is no way to live your life! (research has shown)
I agree that one needs carbs and fibre but one meal can be eaten once a day without rice or roti. Like you can bake a piece of chicken, turkey or fish fillet and add a portion of boiled, baked or raw vegetables and salad to your plate. Also you can have one serving of fruits to complete your food pyramid recommendations.
I did read something on this topic on slimfast optima website few days back. Maybe, you might wanna refer that.
I know someone who is a vegetarian and was recommended to lose weight and she has started eating boiled black channa with raw onion, corriander leaves, pince of salt and chat masala and she does the same with chickpeas. She was saying that it fills her up. She substitutes one of her meals with lentils.
I'm not exactly on this diet and not sure if I want to begin it. I'm just incorporating some healthier ideas into my diet. My brother who is visiting me right now is really into fitness and nutrition. He's built like a football player and wanted to get a 'bit ripped', to shave off a bit of fat. He's into the whole raw food thing, detoxing the body. I've read a little bit into raw food diet. Although it's not totally no carb since you eat fruits and vegetables, it does cut out all the refined foods.
For breakfast he eats a big plate of fruit and water.
Lunch is a big salad with dressing and vitamins.
Snack on trail mix or nuts.
Dinner is a stirfry with chicken. (may be thai with coconut milk or some type of fat-oil)
Some salad on the side with dressing.
He may occasionally have a couple tablespoons of rice or have a cookie in the evening with a cup of milk. I've been eating the same things with him since we eat meals together. I'll see how it goes. So far it feels good to be eating all this fresh food, but I don't want to cut out too many calories since I'm breastfeeding.
Saima - just cut down on rice and roti and pasta. Not completely, just reduce serving proportions for carbs. I did that for a few weeks and people really noticed a difference. They said I am doing something..and I said it wasn't much really.
I also workout about 3 times a week. I have altered to whole wheat pasta, 1% milk etc.
I think little changes like these do make a difference in your lifestyle. I like what your brother is doing. Sounds pretty healthy to me. But then again, you are breastfeeding and I think you should really be careful with what you take into your body. I mean you don't want to starve your baby of nutrition either.
If you want to go with a diet of this kind then make sure you stick to it...and make it a new lifestyle choice...cos if you decide you dont want to eat rice or carbs you need to make sure you do that forever...cos when you stop the diet you are gonna put on the pounds quicktime...
Low carb diets do work but they are hard to maintain and loss is never permanent...
