No 10 backtracks.......again (merged)

There have been as many u-turns by the governemnts of the US and UK in the press than there has been on the ground in Iraq;

No 10 backtracks on claim that two British soldiers were executed

Wasn’t it just yesterday that Blair et al. were frothing at the mouth about 'their boys being executed?

They realise that this is a televised war and as such their publics see it as entertainment. When dealing with Westerners and entertainment the subjects usually have an abnormally short attention span.

So, point is, these people can say whatever they want and the average fool will forget it 5 minutes later to make room for the next lie.

One of the leading tabloids has taken it up anyway. Clearly not impressed by such a callous use of propaganda where someone’s life has been taken. A very shameful act.

“OUR LUKE WAS NOT EXECUTED”

The daily mirror is doing a great job.

True, i think. Here’s a bit regarding the numerous false allegations made by US and British generals from their comfortable armchairs in “Qatt-arr”:

The unpredictable war

One of the best articles, i think, was one quoted by Aishaa in another thread: War watch

If you shout the lies from the top of the roof and whisper the truth, guess what will remain in peoples mind?

There are several common people who call talk shows that are still under the impression that Iraq had something to do with the attack on the WTC.

PM scoring points on dead soldiers

ANGRY relatives last night slammed a pitiful attempt by the Government to apologise for Tony Blair’s claim that two soldiers who died in combat in Iraq were “executed”.

Armed Forces minister Adam Ingram would only say: “If there’s hurt from the language used, we regret that. It was never the intention.” No 10 said: “We have nothing more to add.”

Outraged, the family of Sapper Luke Allsopp - who say they were repeatedly told by his sergeant that he died fighting - hit back: "We’re disgusted by Blair.

“The last few days have been hell for us. Our boy died with honour. We accept the Army’s word, not Blair’s.” Mr Blair appalled relatives with his shocking claim after the bloodied bodies of heroes Luke, 24, and Staff Sergeant Simon Cullingworth, 36, were pictured on Arab Al Jazeera TV.

A day after the Premier used the tragedy to score points against Saddam Hussein, Mr Ingram said: “Information available to us did indicate the soldiers may have been executed.”

Claiming Mr Blair’s remarks were in the context of what was known about Saddam, he said the language used was “to point up our knowledge of the depravity of that regime.” He refused to say whether he or the Prime Minister had written to the Allsopps to apologise.

Asked if Mr Blair was going to say sorry, No 10 also refused to comment.

As the controversy grew, embarrassed officials admitted there was NO concrete evidence the men were killed in cold blood.

Robert Fisk: Truth about Basra in the raw footage

29.03.2003

Two British soldiers lie dead on a Basra roadway, a small Iraqi girl - victim of an Anglo-American air strike - is brought to hospital with her intestines spilling out of her stomach, a terribly wounded woman screams in agony as doctors try to take off her black dress.

** An Iraqi general, surrounded by hundreds of his armed troops, stands in central Basra and announces that Iraq’s second city remains firmly in Iraqi hands. The unedited al-Jazeera videotape - filmed over the past 36 hours and newly arrived in Baghdad - is raw, painful, devastating.

It is also proof that Basra - reportedly “captured” and “secured” by British troops last week - is indeed under the control of Saddam Hussein’s forces. Despite claims by British officers that some form of uprising has broken out in Basra, cars and buses continue to move through the streets while Iraqis queue patiently for gas bottles as they are unloaded from a Government truck. **

So anyway.

Were the 2 Brit pilots executed? Or are they POW's?

They were not executed according to their families and senior officers. Blair was telling bared faced lies, and has not had the shame to say he was wrong in making his initial accusations.

Qualities the Iraqis haven’t displayed.
