I don’t know how popular this story is nationwide, but here, ask any New Yorker who’s read the news in teh past 2 years and they can tell you about this case.
Background: 7 year old girl, brutally abused and beaten by mother and stepfather. Found dead in January of 2006… the case brought to light the ineptness of the Child services system, at how they couldn’t save her…So the last few months, the stepfather has gone on trial, for murder. his lawyer came up wiht the defense, that even though he did beat and torture her, it was the mother who actually gave the death-blow. for months, all the news coverage made it look as if he would be convicted of murder..xcept the jury convicted him of Manslaughter and not murder. Reason being b/c they couldn’t see that he did it under “depraved indifference.”

He will be carted off to jail where the lowest on the totem pole is one who has harmed a child. He will get what he deserves.

He should've been conficted of murder..not just manslaughter. But no, the jury messed up again.
I hope the jury isnt' as stupid when the mother goes on trial.

Oh I remember this case.. it was so so sad. The other siblings talked about how the father used to make them eat their own feces and stuff.. :no: He’s a real sicko.
I havent been following much of the case lately… but has her biological father been involved in the case or anything? I remember he showed up when all of it was in the news..
