Banning women from wearing niqaab is just as outrageous and unfair as imposing it on them. If they really cared about ‘women’s rights’, they would let each woman choose whether she wants to wear it or not. Nor do I understand, “It’s not part of our religion” argument. Let’s suppose for a few seconds that it is NOT part of our religion, or isn’t mandatory, but a woman *still *wants to wear it, why should you, me or anyone else be telling her that she cannot/should not be wearing it?
Firenze and MB seem to be suffering from the syndrome which Samina Choonara rightly dubbed ‘liberal fundamentalism’.
