Re: niqaab....compulsory or not....
Btw... does anyone have any evidence/reference to back up the claims or would it just be limited to 'I think...'?
thats my understanding of it as well.

Re: niqaab....compulsory or not....
1.It is not only the traslation I have read. I have read a numorous traslations of this verse.
well looks to me that different translations are saying different things....cuz i have read numerous ones as well...and it makes no mention of the face. Also no mention of face in the arabic txt either. If it did im sure many ppl wearing hijab would be wearing nikaab as well...perhaps this is why there is such great debate.

Re: niqaab....compulsory or not....
The Niqaab is not compulsory...the Niqaab worn today is an innovation...it was a reaction to Western Civilisation inflitrating Islamic lands...to counter it...officials felt showing less is more...thats all...and its carried on today...
The Four Schools of Thought all acknowledge an Ibn Abbas hadeeth which says 'face and hands' (can be shown)
