The second volley has officially been fired from one of Sony’s competitors during its Tokyo Game Show 2009 liveblog with Nintendo officially unveiling the Wii price dropping to $199.99 in the US. The much rumored price drop goes into effect on Sunday, September 27 (that’s this Sunday, folks), confirming reports from earlier today from a leaked Best Buy internal memo.
I'd buy it mostly for the virtual console. The backward compatibility with the Gamecube is also a very nice feature. They should make a DS player for it, which lets you play DS games on a TV, with the wiimote carrying out the function of the stylus.
GBA games had lower resolution than DS games and they looked fine on a TV. I'm pretty sure the DS is at least as powerful than the N64. I played GBA games on a CRT TV and they looked fine on that. However I don't know how they would look on an HDTV.
Man I should have waited lol. I got the Wii back in November and the 360 like 2 months ago and now, that too dropped like 100 bucks.
Damn. Did you get an XBox 360 Elite or Pro? I suppose with a $100 price drop, the fact that you don't get the HD cables with it is not so bad since you can still end up saving about $40. I still haven't found anything on the Wii to really make me want it.
