Its the newest pro-sumer, after the D70. Any one bought it? I saw some pics taken by it and the colors were almost like film which was nice cause most digital pics look too orangy.
Re: Nikon D50
don't have it but it's certainly a nice starter SLR for an affordable price. If you can stretch the budget.. buy the 18-70mm lens instead of the 18-55mm kit lens the camera is sold with.
Re: Nikon D50
since SLR's don't have a built in lens, you have to purchase one. 18-55mm denotes the zoom range.. the longer the range, the more you can zoom into distant subjects. Also the 18-70mm lens is much better in sharpness and exhibits less optical anomalies common to most low price lenses.. It will cost you more though, but in the long run if you wish to get into SLR's.. it'll be worth the upgrade..
Re: Nikon D50
Acha thank you! Yes i like the fact that we can use different nikkor lenses. I mostly take pics of our family and friends when we go out etc and one problem i face sometimes is lack of space especially in restaurants etc so i have to be really close to the group and some people get cut off the others look like their faces got distorted. So this 18mm- 77mm can help with that?
Re: Nikon D50
actually that means you use a lens that isn't 'wide' enough.. which is indicated by the lower number '18' in the 18-70mm.. both the 18-55mm and the 18-70mm are similar when shooting at the wide end.. it's only at the telephoto end where the 18-70mm has more reach upto 70mm.
However a solution for your 'distortion' problem is not to stand too close to your group.. stand like 6-8 feet away and use the zoom which is where the 18-70mm might help ensuring less space left around corners.
Sometimes when u just can't stand further away you're in need of an ultra-wide lens like the nikkor 12-24mm which is a suberb lens but also very pricey.
Re: Nikon D50
Thank you soooooooooo much! Now i can understand that the lower number is for close and the larger for zoom. I will probably start with the 18-70mm after checking the prices locally. There is a place called hunts camera here in boston, they supposedly have a great selection. Do you know much about photography? You sound like you do!
