he was on the guy's side, and I was at the girl's side. His uncle was the one that represented me. He came and asked my permission to appoint two Witnesses (my uncles). I said yup.
They went away and after that I don't know what happened.
Later on I saw in the video that they did the whole nikah thing with my fiance.
Then after that they came back with my fiance to the girls side, and we signed the documents.
And now we're official :-)
You dont have to be in seperate rooms, despite what might be the norm in Pakistan. If you want to be in the same room for your nikkah, just talk with your family about it
As for procedure, it usually consists of short khutbah, ijaab and qabool, signing contract, and ending with dua
I had my Nikkah in Lahore last year in August. It usually goes something like this. Dulha's side comes to the venue. While Dulha sitting there the molvi sahab fills up the Nikkah Nama. Then they get signatures of all the witnesses from both sides. The girl is usually not there yet she is in a seperate room.
Afetr getting singatures from the witnesses, a person is assigned as a 'wakeel' on behalf of the girl. It can be girl's dad or a relative. Then the wakeel goes to the girl and ask her 3 times if she agrees to be his wife (they dunt ask in all cases. My uncle just came and told me my husband's whole name and said your nikkah is taking place with my hubby's name and we need your permission, please sign here). So I signed on all the copies of Nikkah nama.
Then they took the Nikkah nama back to my husband, recited some Quranic verses and asked him three times if he agrees. Then they got his signature.
They my family brought me to the guests to sit with my hubs.
Thats it!!!
I was also wondering if their are any certain "obligations" from either sides regarding the entire nikkah ceremony/function..
is it given from the brides side or grooms side?
i have heard that the girls family is the one that does the dinner and everything.. and the guys family is the one that comes for the nikkah..
