Does anyone have any information on the marriage laws in the US. Is it allowed to perform a Nikkah in a different state after obtaining the marriage license and registering the marriage with a judge in another state. By law you must have a license to marry before nikkah the molvi must then submit or register your marriage in the same state from where u obtain your license and you get your marriage certificate in the mail. In the case you get a license and have already been married legally meaning registered your marriage is it allowed to provide that certificate in a different state to perform nikkah or do you need the license/marriage certificate from the same state where the nikkah will be performed?

If you’re having a civil ceremony…you’re married legally. Its done according to US law. You can have your Nikah anywhere…it doesn’t matter. You can present your certificate and that would be sufficient to do a Nikah.

Is that so? what about to obtain the license i thought both parties applying for the license have to be present.

In Illinois…when obtaining a marriage license both parties need to be present physically with IDs.
