Nikkah over the phone

What is Islamic ruling on this issue? How about Nikkah on webcam over the internet with witnesses (and family members) on both sides and picture can be seen on both sides.
If it is OK, then what about if my friend in America stays here for another 2 years and does not meet his wife in Pakistan, then both get bound, especially the wife.

re

oh no you are intermixing two things
the title of the thread is confusing
phine is a diferent thing and webcam is different
I donot know the latest ruling concerning with webcam
As far as phone is concerned
It is allowed conditionally and
the condition is that of wakeel on both sides
should be there
thats all
WAkeel should conduct nikkah

Wakeel does not conduct nikah. It is the nikahkhwan who conducts nikah. There needs to be witnesses on both sides.

In my view Webcam nikah is much better than just telephone nikah. And telephone nikah is permitted as long as the nikah khwan is able to verify the person on the other end of the phone line.

Two views…

Thanks for the replies. Answer given in the second link seems to assume that wittnesses are not present, and hence, called it not permissible. Where the first link takes witnesses on both sides into account and allows Nikkah on phone.

But the thing is there are always some 'rishtay-daar' (relatives) who always 'kusar pusar' (backbite) that 'their nikkah/marriage was not right', etc. because it was done over the phone. etc.

Just make sure you dial the right number or you might live to regret it! :D

^ And if you get the voicemail, that doesn't mean "khamoshi neem razamandi". Just telling you, cz the issue was raised once before :)
