A very close friend of mine has her nikkah soon. Its in a hall with about 75 guests. She is looking for suggestions for unique ideas for the event & any fun ideas as well.
How can the decore be simple yet elegant?
How can the guests have fun, she has about 10 cousins who can do something?
How can the entrance of the bride be made different?
Should there be give aways .. if yes, what?
Any other ideas?
Re: Nikkah fun ideas ...
I dunno...its a nikkah, not a game show.......and a very blessed day......not that you cant have fun....just......not somthing usually on the nikkah more for mehndi's and walima's......when things are chilled out.
Re: Nikkah fun ideas ...
For set-up you can incorporate tons of candles and avoid flowers. Candles are relatively cheap and flowers are expensive. Plus, a bunch of candles makes the room look awesome and more ceremonial.
Some of the cousins can do short speeches or they can throw a little skit about the couple...either about "how they met" or what "life after marriage" will be like for the couple. It can be very funny if done right. Every family feels differently on how much music and "entertainment" they want at a Nikkah, but if your family is cool with it I think it's a good idea.
If they want to pay for this you can hire a sitar/tabla player to perform as guests walk in or during dinner.
They can hire a desi comedian who can tell jokes in Urdu...went to a wedding like this once and we were cracking up!
A good idea is to have a simple, elegant Nikkah if you don't want to outshine your main event(Ruksathi). This way people will look forward to the main celebration later. A Nikkah ceremony, dinner, pictures with guests should be enough. If there's 75 people coming it will be intimate enough for people to just talk and have a good time. Don't worry so much about entertainment and maybe save it all for the bigger event.
Re: Nikkah fun ideas …
best decoration tips is DIY ones, and they don’t have to look arts n crafts , pick a theme for eg you could do secrect garden and have like her favourite flowers peeping out of rustic boxes and antiques , it can be really well done depending on how you desgin and work with the boxes.
If she is a bit more daring and fun loving u could also go for something like the mad hatters tea party from alice in wonderland…with a desi twist, like the chai party ,and basically have a desert bar of paki and english sweets and have the old tea set,U can have chai wala decor, have the doodh wala miniature tin cans with like the tea leaves pouring out think herbal ,lemon grass -things with great textures and incorporate them with the decor. It may sound a bit off beat ,but if it’s done tastefully and well it can look amazing.
Start with a theme , select one trust me you’ll have a hard time cuz every1 will want something else but that’s part of the fun!
Then get a mood board/inspiration board to and and create a feel of what you want to incorporate into it. and it can either be digital or u can actually make it manually whatever suits u.IT’s what I do with certain shoots in my photography and it helps not only visualize a certain look but is great for direction when you seem to loose track in this maze of ideas .
.Document your thought process, Have a few girls nights in ,take pics of what ever you do cuz it will get messy , get a projector set up , which is pretty common in weddings held abroad and play the slideshow of how hard you worked on it.
You could do a skit based on their personalities and how they would deal with certain problems etc.. like if ur friend had a flat Tyre would she expect her hubby to drop everything and rescue her ,would she try and change it herself.loads of options.
A questionare of how well they** think **know each other and then playback the answers .
Hope I could help.
Re: Nikkah fun ideas ...
to have them looking like thy r being poued out its a techinque done with wire and sort of paper mache .u can do sum research on it & if u have any art luvin friends they'll be happy to do it .

Re: Nikkah fun ideas …
oh man, there is SO much you can do with a nikkah!
and especially one that is so intimate! awesomeness.
for starters, how about a daytime or early evening affair? since her guest list is small, she can do so much in terms of getting a fancy venue- what about a private room at a posh restaurant, a beach affair, a poolside party or an outdoor garden space? does she know anyone with a backyard she could borrow?
she can save the jewel tones for the evening reception and keep her colors light and bright. lots and lots of flowers would look amazing and since the venue would be more intimate, she could go all out there. what about seating people in banquet-style, long rectangle tables for dinner and having a sweetheart table for her and hubs? she could experiment with the menu too- instead of all desi, maybe opt for italian or chinese and do a sit-down dinner, not a buffet.
i love the idea of the bright, fun colors here- http://manolobrides.com/images/2009/11/pink-and-green-wedding-reception.jpg
and i also love the mini cakes they have at each place setting- what a yummy giveaway for guests to take home!
if cakes are too pricey, how about cookies in clear bags or chinese take away boxes or cupcakes in cute boxes?

i’m always pro edible favors- people enjoy them, remember the thought, and its not another piece of clutter to take home and have lying around.
she could go for pictures during the day too- they always turn out so lovely, esp if she’s lucky enough to have overcast skies.

how about an outdoor backdrop set up for guests to have fun photos taken?
as for DYI decor, if you can help her out or her family can and someone can be in charge of set-up during the day, it can go really well. the main thing is to not have the bride or her immediate family be worried and stressed about the DIY elements on the day of or the night before. its their day -they should be relaxed and happy! and if you go the DIY route, then definitely look into flower wholesalers and check out bulk stores like Ikea to pick up cute vases and accessories for the day.
Re: Nikkah fun ideas …
SGC thank youuuu!!
here’s the thing:
-Her event is expected to be in the evening 6-ish
-Its in a banquet hall i.e. indoors
-Its in Lahore, so no beach etc idea possible
-There is a policy in Pakistan for wedding events to be one-dish
Now suggest what could be done
Re: Nikkah fun ideas …
stick to keeping things light and fun. lots of candles, lots of flowers – all white in clear glass vases of varying heights with a chic black ribbon tied around the vase, do the edible favors (i’m sure bakeries could accommodate you, no?, or keeping in the black and white theme how about black boxes with white mithai and a white ribbon around the box?), keep the one dish a biryani (who doesn’t love biryani?) or can you sub in lots of appetizers instead of one main dish? that could be fun and yummy.
keep the look of the event more modern than traditional but still glam. go for a no fuss, no muss stage and maybe set the room up like a lounge with a lot of white furniture (couches, tables, etc.) but no dinner tables since there really isn’t dinner per se. how about having a tabla or sitar player entertaining everyone? keep the event feeling more like a glamorours cocktail hour rather than a full-on reception.
the cake- http://my-biggestday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Black-and-White-Wedding-Theme-3.jpg
ribbon trim for a bit of fun- http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/115561158/Black_and_White_Polka_Dot_Grosgrain_Ribbon.jpg
flowers- http://brideorama.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/wedding-reception-decorations-6.jpg
keep the stage light and airy with lots of white chiffon, lots of candles and lighting, all white furniture, etc. throw in some mirrors maybe for added sparkle.
i don’t love the centerpieces here but the pictures give you a good sense of the kind of feeling i’m talking about- http://www.stylemepretty.com/2011/10/03/miami-wedding-by-kt-merry-photography/
if she doesn’t like the black, what about navy blue or a pale pink instead? think more contemporary colors. no reds or maroons or fuschias-- all typical bridal colors. think more valima, less shaadi.
Re: Nikkah fun ideas …
OMG! I love all the ideas. I want to have my shadi soon so I can get all the cool ideas from you for mine as well
.. Lets leave her aside :D, i like the black & white for my own wedding. hehe
Re: Nikkah fun ideas ...
Her dress is baby turquoise shade. I think that light green & pink combination picture you posted earlier would look awesome in turquoise & pink too or maybe turquoise & white as well.
