Nikkah and Waleemah

Does woman has to be ‘Paak’ at the time of Nikkah OR nikkah can be performed when she is going through the menstrual cycle?
What exactly the concept of ‘Halaal Waleemah’?
I was going through the nikkah requirements over the net but couldn’t find any info on my concerns. any thoughts?

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

i think a halal waleemah wud be one where halal food is served and is bought from halal earnings....
other than that i cant think of anything....

no other things attached to waleemah, just i suppose that it must be after the nikah....
other rumors like the couple shud have made love etc r all just rumors, no reality in them....

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

Good question. I was wondering about this too.

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

^ to my understanding there are many married people at GP... but no one really bothered to answer the questions. strange

thanks armughal for your insight.

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

I thought the valima was to celebrate the consumation of the marriage, thus if the woman is menstrurating that is not possible- perhaps that is the reason?

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

nope. the woman doesn’t have to be ‘paak’ in order to have her nikkah. i can find out a reliable source for this if you’d like. (i was surprised myself when i found out that a woman can be in the middle of her period when getting married - kinda odd if you think about it) scratches head

^ much Appreciated :)

Re: Nikkah and Waleemah

Nikah dates are usually set well in advance, some times months in advance. It will be odd for the bride's side to refuse to go ahead with the nikah at the last minute just because the bride's cycle got disturbed. I don't think there is any reason to suggest that the bride should expose her personal menstrual cycle information for all the world in order to decide on nikah date.

Similarly, as armughal said, the supposed "ruling" (rolleyes wala icon) that a valima is not "halaal" unless marriage is consummated is probably spread by a "khawaar" maulvi saab who couldn't get his wife to have sex. I have not seen any authoritative basis for that either.
