You only either apply for a visa or NICOP card, and NOT both.
NICOP is more cost effective and cheaper then getting a visit visa as you only pay one time fees (currently ~£70) and the card will be valid for 10 years which will allow you visa-free entry to Pakistan, whereas, with getting a visit visa you will have to pay the fees every time you want to visit Pakistan and also the hassle of going to the embassy and filling in the forms.
These days you can now apply for NICOP online and you will have it delivered in 2 weeks time to your house. Mine got delivered via DHL courier.

So what do I apply for, a POC or a NICOP? I'm British and only want to visit for a month.

POC will take about 3 months to get, so no use of that.
NICOP will take about 2 weeks does your parent have ID cards?
If this is going to be only a ONE time visit to Pakistan and you don't think you will ever be going there again then shot term visa would be better.
Nicop online renewal
Asa. Please any one with experience guide. My cnic has expired and I wish to make nicop, in which catagory would it come, new nicop or renewal of cnic? What documents would be required with following modifications, marital status changed, nikah nama or nadra marriage certificate would be fine, wish to add fathers last name "ali " as my last name, as same is also mentioned in my passport, would matric certificate be enough or will need to make affidavit of name correction, what other documents will be asked, like passport, pr card etc? Highly appreciate your inputs. Thanks
