Re: Nice looking formal for slightly heavier frame

I dont think you should look at how "heavy" the person is but rather their shape/figure. Most styles that flatter a "smaller" pear shape will flatter a larger person who's..pear-shaped. get what i mean?

It would depend on the formal as well. Do you want western wear? Like a skirt or dress? If you’re on the heavier side, stick to an A-line skirt or dress.

Or do you mean desi formal wear? Well, there are sooo many possibilities. You can wear an elegant sari, shalwar kameez, lehnga, sharara, what have you!

Even in the choices for shalwar kameez, there are so many varieties in style and design. If you’re also looking to create a more slimming look, then opt for darker colors because they make the frame appear more narrow. Black is a nice example. So is a deep purple. Plus, darker colors look nice for an evening event. If you opt for a deep square-shaped or V-shaped or scooped neckline…it will also create a slimming look. Also look for designs/patters that go in a vertical (up to down) direction because they create a slimmer and longer look. For jewelry…long chandelier earrings create an illusion of length so that helps to create a slimmer look as well.

Re: Nice looking formal for slightly heavier frame

Oh i should also point out. stay away from shiny shiny fabrics. as well as the stiff, net type outfits. they just dont suit anyone and are uncomfortable nad paindu-style as well.

Re: Nice looking formal for slightly heavier frame

Thanks for suggestions gals!!!! :)

typical salwar kameez styles seem to suit a thicker person, don’t go for a short top, don’t go for churidar pants and the other girl was right about shiny fabrics just say no. below is a pic i found on jang’s fashion page and the outfit didn’t flatter the bride, it could have if she had sleeves (make sleeves as long as the widest part of the arm) the short top didn’t add length to her body which could have slimmed her frame, also if she wrapped her dupatta to hide how wide her waist was it could have helped. the lengha is straight through her hips and just shows how big her thighs are, instead go for a regular round cut lengha and if you want to add some sparkle to it do one of those outfits where a pop of another color layers out at the bottom. do not go for puffy sleeves it’ll only add weight to your upper body frame which may not suit you and make u seem to have broader shoulders.

anyhow here’s the pic of what you don’t want to do:

also some anarkalis tent out from the top, don’t do that if you go for an anarkali get one that’s fitted at least 2 inches under your bust and then flares out (your rib area is always somewhat smaller and that gives off the illusion of everything below that being small as well even if it may not be).

That is the best advice ever.
