Looks like this scandal has some traction: Report: 11 of Patriots’ game balls were underinflated

Re: NFL 2014 Conference Championship

I hope the Patriots get disqualified for cheating. If Bonds can be raked through the coals for lying abt taking steroids, why shouldn't Big Belly Check be made to testify under oath.

I read the Patriots may get away with a slap on the wrist.

NFL 2014 Conference Championship

This is not the first time Pats are involved in cheating. And yea most likely they'll b fined. It's all about money afteral

What penalties do Patriots and Bill Belichick deserve for cheating? NFL execs weigh in

What price will the New England Patriots pay fordeflating footballs for their AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts?
Two long-time NFL men, an executive in personnel for one team and an assistant coach for another weighed in with their opinions when asked by NJ Advance Media.
Both men requested anonymity because they were not authorized to be speak on the subject.
"That’s a tough one,‘’ the veteran coach said. "What they did to New Orleans a couple of years back for the bounty thing, that was really rough. I can’t imagine it will be anywhere near that.‘’
In 2012, the Saints, after being found guilty of placing bounties on opposing players, saw head coach Sean Payton serve a one-year suspension, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams get an indefinite suspension, assistant coach Joe Vitt get six games and general manager Mickey Loomis get eight games. They also forfeited two second-round draft picks and were fined.

SUPER BOWL XLIX: Full coverage of Patriots vs. Seahawks

"I’m guessing, and this is just me guessing, (the Patriots) will get a nice fine, lose a pick, or two, and maybe Bill (head coach Belichick) gets a game suspension. But like I said I’m just guessing.‘’
The personnel man thought because this is New England’s second offense in breaking league rules, the penalty could be a lot worse than if the Pats were first-time offenders.
For being guilty of spying on opposing team’s practices, New England was fined $750,000 and forfeited a first-round pick in 2007.
"This isn’t the first time,‘’ he said. "That could hurt them. Now, the question is to you go after the team with a big fine and the loss of picks, or do you put it on coach Belichick and suspend him? Maybe you do both.
"It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I think the fact that it was the AFC Championship Game adds a little bit to it as well. If this was the fifth game of the season, it might be more of a slap on the wrist.‘’

Re: NFL 2014 Conference Championship

Simple. Patriots disqualified. Barred from competing in NFL for 5 years. Fine 20 million dollars.

Those individuals responsible - lifetime bans.
Fine is 100 pct of their annual pay.
Criminal prosecution.

NEXT VIDEOAFC Final Not First Time Colts Complained About Pats Deflating Balls

AUTO START: ON | OFF

New England Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick said today he was “shocked” and had “no explanation” about the accusations the team used under-inflated balls in this past Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
He said he was “completely and totally unaware” of the accusations until Monday.
“I have no explanation for what happened,” he said during a news conference this morning.

The Unfortunate Hashtag That Appeared Behind Bill Belichick
Belichick said he is cooperating with the NFL’s investigation.
“I can’t comment on what they’re doing,” he added.
Footballs, which are weighed before the game, must be inflated to no less than 12.5 pounds per square inch.
“Any deflation would then take us under that specification limit. Knowing that now, in the future, we will certainly inflate the footballs above that low level to account for any possible change during the game,” Belichik added.

A deflated ball could be easier for the quarterback to grip in bad weather, such as in Sunday’s rain at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
“I obviously understand that each team has the opportunity to prepare the balls the way they want, give them to the official, and the officials either approve or disapprove. And that’s really the end of it for me,” Belichik said.
The controversy around “deflate-gate” has taken attention away from the Super Bowl, in which the Patriots will play the Seattle Seahawks.
The coach also revealed his “personal coaching philosophy” is to “make things as difficult as possible for players in practice.”
“I’m sure that any current or past player of mine will tell you the balls we practice with are as bad as they can be. Wet, sticky, cold, slipper, however bad we can make them, I make them. Any time players complain about the quality of the footballs, I make them worse and that stops the complaint,” he told reporters.
“We never use the condition of the footballs as an excuse,” he added. “We play with whatever or kick with whatever we have to use.”
The Colts had raised concerns as far back as this past November about under-inflated balls supplied by the Patriots following its regular-season Nov. 16 game game, ESPN reported.
During that game, Colts safety Mike Adams twice intercepted three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady and gave the balls to the Colts’ equipment manager to save. Both times there were concerns about the balls feeling under-inflated, sources earlier this season had told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Those sources also said that the Colts raised concerns to the league, which was aware of the issue going into Sunday’s AFC Championship game. New England won the game, 45-7.
The minimum disciplinary action for tampering of a football is a fine of $25,000, according to the NFL’s game operations manual.

Deflate-gate: New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick Says He Has ‘No Explanation’ for Under-Inflated Balls - ABC News

Re: NFL: Deflate Gate

Belichick and his Pats are a disgrace to the NFL. We all can probably agree that the deflated balls did not cause the win, because let's face it, the Colts would have lost anyway, but what Douchebag Brady and the whole Patriots organization did was shady. It's unbecoming sports like conduct and they should be heavily fined and definitely lose draft picks.

The Patriots should be disqualified from the Super Bowl

heat on a test in school? You fail, no questions asked.Cheat on your taxes, the IRS will find you. It won’t be pretty.Cheat on a World Cup bid and, well, you probably get awarded that World Cup, but that’s neither here nor there. The New England Patriots cheated in the AFC championship. As such, the team should be disqualified from the Super Bowl.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/ap_super_bowl_footballs_70179250.jpg?w=1000&h=667(AP)
Deflating 11 of 12 balls in Sunday’s game, as has been reported by ESPN, is a major violation and something that had a great affect on the game. Given the number of deflated balls, it’s almost impossible this was accident, meaning that someone in the New England organization willfully tampered with the rules to give his team an advantage. That’s cheating. The penalty should be simple: Ban ‘em.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/ap-super-bowl-football_003.jpg?w=1000&h=745(AP)
Of course, it’s not realistic to disqualify New England from the Super Bowl. What’s the NFL going to do, bring back the Colts to replace them? Hold a loser-bracket between Denver and Indianapolis? That’s not feasible. Just because the Pats should be DQ’d doesn’t mean they will or could. But, again, they should. The evidence is all there, assuming Chris Mortensen’s report is correct. Former NFL referee Gerry Austin was on Mike and Mike this morning and said officials check the PSI of all footballs two hours before the game. At halftime, New England’s footballs (each team has different balls during the game) were found to be two-to-three pounds lighter. Someone deflated the balls. There’s no debate here.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/ap_patriots_deflated_footballs_football_70139878.jpg?w=1000&h=789(AP)
The defenders of New England have been even more laughable than they were during the videotape controversy of 2007. “It doesn’t even help that much!” Sure it doesn’t. That’s why they were doing it. Of course it helps. Deflating gave Brady an easier grip on the ball (at least in the first half; there’s question about whether the balls were re-inflated at half time when it was 17-7). It also left Andrew Luck with the harder footballs in the colder weather.Would a level playing field have affected the game? It ended 45-7, so it’s doubtful. But obviously throwing a deflated ball helps, plus the placebo effect is powerful and maybe Brady knowing he had an easier ball to throw helped. And Luck using inferior equipment, or thinking that it was hard to throw in such conditions, may have had a similar impact on his psyche.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/gty_461747256_70125670.jpg?w=1000&h=667(Getty Images)
If it’s found out that Bill Belichick knew anything about this, even after the fact, Draconian sanctions are the only way to go. He was fined $500,000 for the videotaping controversy, which is a substantial amount of money, but is hardly going to break a man who makes many, many millions in a single season. (No one really knows exactly how much the Pats’ coach makes, but it’sthought to be over $7 million). If Sean Payton gets suspended for an entire year because of Bountygate, Belichick deserves at least the same thing. He affected the sanctity of the game and fairness of one of the three biggest battles of the year. But since Roger Goodell has been showing the backbone of an invertebrate (they don’t have backbones in case you, like me, forgot seventh-grade science), an eight-game suspension seems fair. Draft picks should be taken away, not for one year, but for two or three, because the Pats are always picking toward the end of the first round anyway. Or take away some salary cap space, like the league unjustly did to the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/gty_461782662_70140606.jpg?w=1000&h=667(Getty Images)
This isn’t to say I don’t have a grudging respect for the Pats. It’s not cheating if you don’t get caught and they weren’t caught during the game. They somehow got around the biggest mystery of this controversy — how the officials, who handle the balls in between every play, didn’t notice the changes — with ease. But I’ll happily blame the Patriots for being skeezy once again. I’ll blame Belichick because, as Goodell said about Payton during Bountygate, the head coach is supposed to know what’s going on with his team. I’ll blame Tom Brady who clearly knew the balls were deflated but is getting off scot-free in this controversy because he’s the Golden Boy and is handsome and is married to a supermodel. (It’s amazing how no one criticizes Brady. He’s just as guilty as the others.) But there’s blame for others too.How on earth does the NFL, which regulates everything from shoe color to the way players gyrate in the end zone, let teams keep 12 footballs in their own possession during the game. That’s like a teacher leaving the room during an exam.https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/ap_super_bowl_football_70163834.jpg?w=1000&h=667(AP)
It doesn’t matter though. The NFL will turn a blind eye once again. There will be minor sanctions, this controversy will dominate the news cycle for a few days and then fade into the ether and we’ll move onto something else. But in the here and now, if the report is true, the New England Patriots should be hit hard. But they won’t and the Pats legacy will grow even more. With a Super Bowl win in two Sundays, people will be inclined to say Bill Belichick is the greatest coach of all time. But at what?

Re: NFL: Deflate Gate

Would be shocked if that happened. NFL has a brand to preserve. If they acknowledge the cheating, it will lose a lot of fans and money. They will appear to be strict, but not too strict.

Re: NFL: Deflate Gate

It’s obvious to everyone except Brady and The Pats lol

Troy Aikman says it’s ‘obvious’ Tom Brady had a role in Deflategate | For The Win

Troy Aikman has an idea of what happened in Deflategate.
“It’s obvious that Tom Brady had something to do with this,” Aikman said Thursday morning on Dallas Sports radio 1310 The Ticket. His comments came before Bill Belichick said he doesn’t have an explanation for what happened in a news conference.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and FOX color analyst continued.
“I know going back to when I played, they’ve loosened up the rules in terms of what each team is able to do with the footballs coming into the game,” he said. “Used to, the home team provided all the balls. And now, each team brings their footballs the way they like them and break ‘em in. Used to you couldn’t break them in.
“So for the balls to be deflated, that doesn’t happen unless the quarterback wants that to happen, I can assure you of that. Now the question becomes did Bill Belichick know about it.”

Re: NFL: Deflate Gate

Even with deflated balls, Seattle will win.
