Whether Brazil reaches final or no, their celebration today hit the biggest blow when their superstar Neymar is declared out of the rest if the worldcup due to fractured vertebrae after columbian player hit him from back while trying to tackle.
its really unfortunate as the semifinal against Germany will be huge and the captain Thiago Silva is already out due to accumulated yellow cards.
do you think Brazil still got a shot? Can they beat the fav Germany without Silva and Neymar??
As for chance, my heart is with Brazil. Neymar makes his teammates better. I still think Brazil has a fighting chance. I am going with Brazil with the standard 2-1. Sometimes reams raise their game when they lose their star.
It bugs me no end that leading up to this game Germany had only two card (probably both yellow). If the Germans were carded at same rate both teams would have lost a player.
If Germans played as the brazilians did they probably would have more yellow cards. The ref was too lax on fouls and challenges by brazilians, and then Colombians started responding in kind.
Ref seemed to not draw local fan ire by giving yellow cards and disqualifying home team stars from semi final. Well, now a tough but not a malicious challenge has sent their star player out.
@ X2 I don't think Neymar getting injured had to do with ref not giving out yellow cards earlier (he made up for it with quite a few cards after 65 min)..As u said it was tough foul but not malicious. In other words part of the game.
Rather than focus on one game where per the commentators not enough yellow cards were handed out, I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that in 4 games the whole German team got only 2 cards. At least that's what I heard during commentary.
Unless I am missing something that seems awfully low. The Germans are no softies. They do foul. And they do flop. With the best of them.

An emotional Neymar had to hold back the tears as he addressed a nation in mourning the day after Brazil’s talisman was ruled out of the rest of the World Cup with a broken vertebra. Live television pictures showed a medical helicopter airlifting the 22-year-old from Brazil’s training camp in Teresopolis to his home in Guarujá in São Paulo state, where he will continue to undergo treatment for the injury sustained in Friday’s quarter-final victory against Colombia. Still sporting his trademark baseball cap, Neymar waved briefly from his stretcher inside the helicopter before the doors were closed and the aircraft flew away. He later released a video message via the Brazilian Soccer Federation and urged his team-mates to complete their quest to win a sixth World Cup. “My dream isn’t over. It was interrupted by a play but it continues,” a red-eyed Neymar said. “I’m certain that my team-mates will do everything possible so that my dream, which is to be a champion, comes true. My dream was also to play in a World Cup final but this time it didn’t work out. I am sure they will win this cup and be champions, and I will be with them, and all Brazilians will soon be celebrating all of that. “It’s a very difficult moment, I have no words to translate what is going through my head and my heart, I’d just like to say I will be back as quickly as possible, when you least expect it, I’ll be back.” Neymar later conducted a live television interview via a satellite link and reduced the presenter and members of the studio audience to tears. Fifa’s disciplinary committee is studying the challenge that led to the injury and will decide whether to punish the Colombia defender Juan Zúñiga. Zúñiga – who plays his club football in Italy for Napoli – issued an apology, having originally stated after the match he had only been “defending his shirt”, in reference to the persistent fouling by Brazil’s players during the first 45 minutes in Fortaleza. “I don’t think it was normal football play. I do believe it was aggressive,” he said. “Although I feel that these situations are a normal part of the game, there was no intent to injure, malice nor negligence on my part. “I want to reach out to Neymar, who I admire, respect and consider one of the best players in the world. I hope you recover quickly and return to the game soon, so we can all support a sport full of the virtues and qualities that I’ve tried to follow in my 12 years as a professional player.”

He gave a number out but by then the tone of the game had been set, the number and nature of fouls was quite significant. It was a very rough game and when you play rough..and continue to play rough, injuries are much more likely.
The Brazilian coach has hinted three names who can replace Neymar. Most likely it’ll be Chelesea player Willian
Scolari Hints Willian May Replace Neymar in SemisBELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — Jul 6, 2014, 4:18 PM ET

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari hinted in training Sunday that midfielder Willian is his first option to replace Neymar in Brazil’s World Cup semifinal against Germany.
Willian took Neymar’s position when Brazil’s reserves played against a local under-20 squad at its training camp outside Rio de Janeiro.
The regular starters stayed in the gym and didn’t practice on the field, but all players touted as possible Neymar replacements trained normally. Willian was used in the middle, in front of Brazil’s defensive midfielders, the same way Neymar played before being ruled out of the tournament because of a back injury.
The other options for Scolari include Ramires, Bernard and Hernanes.
Brazil won the training match 3-0 with goals by Bernard, Dante and Ramires. It was Brazil’s second-to-last practice session before traveling to Belo Horizonte for Tuesday’s match at the Mineirao Stadium.
“You can’t compare Neymar to any other player, he has a lot of quality,” Willian said. “I have a different style. He is more of a striker, scores more goals, while my strong suit is to set up my teammates.”
The Chelsea player left practice near the end of Saturday’s session because of a hit on the back but said the injury was not a problem even though it “was still bothering” him a bit.
Bernard said he is prepared to play but acknowledged it won’t be easy to replace the team’s biggest star.
“It’s a difficult situation,” he said. “No player would want to have this opportunity to play because of an injury to someone so important to us on and off the field. But it happened, and we have to understand that we can get through this.”
In addition to missing Neymar, Brazil will not be able to count on captain and central defender Thiago Silva because of a yellow card suspension. Dante, who plays in Germany for Bayern Munich, is his likely replacement. Fellow defender David Luiz is the probable captain on Tuesday.
The Brazilian football confederation is trying to overturn Silva’s suspension and FIFA said it was analyzing the request, but it remained unlikely Brazil would get its way.
Neymar had missed only six of Brazil’s 60 matches played after the 2010 World Cup. In the 54 matches he played with the national team, Brazil won 36, drew 12 and lost six. He had scored half of Brazil’s eight goals going into the World Cup quarterfinals.

Thiago Silva, the skipper, serves as the backbone of the Brazilian team. He will be sorely missed too. The brazilian fans celebrate Neymar's goals like pakistanis celebrate afridi's 6s. He is out for a while from the game and will be missed.
Another aspect is the mounting pressure by fellow Brazilian soccer fans on them to win. I think if Brazil can make it through against Germany, they'll be unstoppable in final. They'll still be tough for Germany
