Re: Newsweek switch on Quran story
I don’t think any disrespect is worth the lives killed protesting it. It was a common thing for the unbelievers of Makkah to disrespect a lot more than just the Quran but the Holy Prophet (saw) never took it as seriously as Mullahs and their supporters do these days. And on top of that they hide behind the ‘we have gairat (respect) and others don’t’ .. same logic used for honor killing too.
Journalism is all about $$, what can get the most paper sold. In US and in Pakistan, the stories I have seen with my own eyes, verses when I read about them in newspapers are totally different. Once a girl in our school had a heat stroke, she fell unconscious. Some of the guys went to the local Jang group’s office and told them the story that the principle was beating her up when she fell unconscious and no body gave her any medical attention. The next day news paper had that story in it. The evening news picked it up the next day and published it the next afternoon with some more mirch masaly. In fact, the girl was unconscious for maybe a minute and was given water. Someone from the staff had called the ambulance, which came in an hour later but by that time she didn’t want to go to the hospital.
That being said, US military is decades behind fighting the psychological & propaganda war as far as winning the hearts of Muslims is concerned.
Anyway, one of the posters I saw online was great. It asked for Bush to apologize for the false report by Newsweek. I want to take it further … Lets ask him to resign and give the reigns of government to the green party.
