While a news reporter is expected to be unbiased and objective, an analyst should be free to hold personal opinions and to express them. I don’t think it is fair to criticize columnists, TV anchors, analysts and pundits for being biased unless the person is blatantly lying.
I also think that specially with such deep impact TV is making in countries like ours, the TV channels must make it very clear the distinction between ‘news’ and analysts own opinions and analysis.
Personal opinions are not an issue, but when analysts/columnists constantly align themselves to a party, and speak against any party opposed to that party, then that raises a red flag.
^ its not about recent events, but I was talking generally.
Being biased and being an insensitive jerk are two different things. We can and should expect bias from pundits, that’s all I am saying. When people know that a certain pundit favors a particular political party, they would evaluate his/her statements keeping that fact in mind.
There are some from every party including PPP, PML-N, MQM, who are pathetic, so why give a clean chit to others?
Yes I agree swearing, abusing etc. should not be tolerated. No matter from which party.
At the same time, I would also say that 90% of our anchors act like monkeys (including those who support PTI), so I find it rather ironic those very anchors, who think they have a free license for character assassination for opponents, complaining. Especially in this social media age, where they can not simply hide behind TV cameras, they should either not be so sensitive or stop acting like monkeys when on air.
