One of oldest newspapers in the world, NOTW closes down over shambolic phone hacking scandal.
I find it rather extra ordinary.

To be fair I seriously doubt that the notw were the only paper to use this dubious practice, they were the only ones to get caught. I was working on a rig offshore a few years back when there was a fire. Several newspapers rang pretending to be the coast guard so they could garner information.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
^ yeh in all likelihood. But NOTW took it way beyond any ethical or moral limits...
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
good riddance to such rubbish. ridiculous crap.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
Trash paper ended up in trash. Good riddance.
Re: ’ News of the world ’ tabloid closes
Murdoch’s evil stroke of genius at work yet again. Within legal framework, NoTW and NI are not obliged to keep any material related to an ongoing investigation - if the business seizes to exist. Rabekah Brooks is still there, JRM will also walk free (athorising out of court compensation for victims is not illegal and it does not prove that he had the knowledge). They already have a sacrificial lamb (and two or three sheeps from the “newsroom” - if things go pearshapped). David Cameron, most likely, will not refer BSkyB takeover bid to competition commission (too much to loose there if he dares to go after the big fish). The biggest losers in this whole saga would be - Coulson, 200 NoTW employees, 4-5 police officers and of course few sheeps from PCC. After few months, everyone will forget about it and BAU for News International. ![]()
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
Murdoch is a clever clever little noggins.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
are people in england really obsessed and have such a low mental level that they care about a tabloid? a TABLOID? Tabloid isn't even news. It's kind of absurd that we are even talking about this.
my mind is sufficiently blown at the stupidity of this absurdity.
Re: ’ News of the world ’ tabloid closes
very good assessment, this was a damage control move by JM
versus Cassey Anthony in US? ![]()
the issue at hand is dodgy actions by the tabloid including phone hacking of many different people.
Re: ’ News of the world ’ tabloid closes
i don’t really get your connection. but an american equivalant to your favorite “paper” is something like this, a tabloid… which as sane people know ISN’T news. people seem to be treating it as a completely legitimate, super amazing, most credible source. when I saw the news, i slapped my self on the head. if we consider this an important publication, then we are doomed. people in the UK, even moreso.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
connection is not in comparing one tabloid rag to another, but how people can get fixated on a story, just like many people were fixated on cassey anthony, and prior to that tiger woods and before that lacy peterson etc.
the issue as I explained is less with some crap rag closing, as much as the tactics it employed i.e. hacking phones of many people, also who owns the publication, and the strange and swift action taken to limit exposure by the big bosses. There are broader issues with former figure from that paper serving the PM, police corruption since there is proof police was paid off for stories, implications for the bskyb venture in which the parent company has a major stake. many angles to the story.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
ultimately, people seem to LOVE the garbage from this "paper." THAT is why we are talking about it. angles shangles, whatever, madam.
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
is that why you are talking about it then :)
love for the garbage from the paper and all?
Re: ' News of the world ' tabloid closes
paindo production replies don't help your cause. paindoo paper fascinates the UK, which sums it all up. you shouldn't take it personally. i'm just an outsider noticing and observing a disturbing trend.
