**New Zealand offers to play in Pakistan **

ISLAMABAD: New Zealand has offered to play cricket matches in Pakistan to raise funds for those affected by floods that have devastated the country, a Pakistan Cricket Board official said Sunday.

“We have received an e-mail from New Zealand Cricket in which they have said they are even willing to play in Pakistan to raise funds,” PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar told The Associated Press.

“It’s (the tour) in a very early stage, but we think it’s a very good gesture on the part of NZC.”

Cricket tours of Pakistan were abandoned after the Sri Lanka team’s convoy was attacked by gunmen last year.

At least eight million people in Pakistan are in need of water, shelter or other emergency assistance.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Union has already said it is planning to send its national team to Pakistan to raise funds for relief efforts.

“Not only international cricket will be revived in Pakistan with these tours, it will also help us to raise funds for people affected by these floods,” Sarwar said.

Pakistan was stripped of its status as co-host for the 2011 World Cup after the ambush on the Sri Lanka cricket team’s bus at Lahore in March last year. Six police officers and a van driver were killed and several Sri Lankan players and officials were injured.

With foreign teams staying away due to security concerns, Pakistan has played in neutral venues, including United Arab Emirates and England.

Last year Pakistan played a one-day series against New Zealand in the UAE and also played its ‘home’ test series in New Zealand.

This is very, very surprising. Given the security situation in Pakistan and the fact that NZ was the first team ever that cancelled their Pakistan tour because of security concerns, not to mention the horrible bomb explosion outside their hotel in Karachi in 2003), this is a very surprising decision indeed.

As much as I would like Pakistan to host international cricket I would oppose such a move considering how PCB had promised ‘presidential security’ to Sri Lankan team but all they got was one mobile in front and some police in the bus and no ‘clearance’ of the route while caravan was heading to the stadium. I would say they can play us in UAE for raising funds for flood victims, thank you NZ and Zim :k:

And Also England played matches there after mumbai attacks.....so Pak can host matches too if india can do it

I agree with Captain, at present its best not to hold the matches now. We could use the security required for other purposes and we certainly do not need any pighead to try to take a shot at visiting team.

Agree, much as I want teams to come to Pakistan, it would be a disaster if a nutcase suicide terrorist got to them. No thank you.

NZ has denied they ever made an offer to come to Pakistan. Why does PCB keep insisting on making a mockery of itself? How hard is it to verify the facts before leaking them to the press?

New Zealand have denied making any offer to tour Pakistan to help raise funds for victims of the floods that have devastated much of the country over the last month. A PCB official told Cricinfo on Sunday than an offer had been made by NZC to help out the PCB, possibly through a flood relief game.

“An offer has been made by New Zealand cricket to help with the devastation in Pakistan, maybe through a flood relief game,” Nadeem Sarwar, the PCB media manager said. “It is at a very early stage just now but they have even said they would be willing to come to Pakistan if needed for that.”

But Justin Vaughan, chief executive NZC, said that though he had sent an email, at no point did he suggest that New Zealand would be touring Pakistan, a move which would herald the return of international cricket to the country after the terror attacks on Sri Lanka in Lahore in March 2009.

Vaughan told NZPA that an email had been sent to the PCB suggesting that cricket had a part to play in helping alleviate the suffering "but certainly it should not be construed that the Black Caps would be going to play there.

“At no point did we offer that the Black Caps would be touring as they certainly won’t be playing there this year. But it would be nice to think that in a cricket-loving country such as Pakistan that cricket could play a part in alleviating some of the suffering that is going on there.”

The stance was backed by New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association manager Heath Mills, who said that security concerns remain the biggest obstacle to any such idea. “[But] at this point in time there is no way anyone can consider putting a cricket team into Pakistan to play,” Mills said. “There remain significant security concerns over the safety of players and a number of issues identified following the attack on the Sri Lankan players have yet to be resolved.”

Mills added that the floods had diverted the attention of security forces “which is what you would expect but, if anything, the security risk will be greater now than at any other time so I don’t see the Black Caps going to Pakistan in the short term. But if there are ways to help the people of Pakistan, the cricketing community should be doing everything to help.”

we don't need Indians or BCCI permission to hold cricket matches in Pakistan. Its us to decide. If NZ wants to come to Pak, its a great news.
