New York!

Hello lovely guppies!

I am hoping you guys can help me decide some must see places for my visit (along with must eat!). My family decided last minute to make a short trip to NYC and even after the extensive amount of information that is online; I'm still confused on what places are must see's and what stuff we should past on. We are also all very big foodies, so suggestions in that arena would be greatly appreciated; we are staying in Manhattan so would prefer that locale.

Please help!

Re: New York!

Welcome shelcome ji.. Since NY has been discussed a lot in this forum I just did a quick search on the previous threads for New york.
Just go through each one of them and you’ll find some good info. Hope that helps.

And feel free to PM me if you have any other question. Enjoy.

Re: New York!

Oh thank you! I read some of them but got lazy of searching :p I will read up and let you know if I have any questions.

Also how cold is it exactly, I searched the weather and it shows mid 60's which sounds chilly but not too cold. On the other hand people are recommending big coats, etc. Will a warm sweater work or is it jacket/coat weather.

Re: New York!

When are you coming exactly? In winter the temprature reading is always deceiving. For example it may be 60 F but feel like 42F due to chilly wind etc. I can assure you, you need a jacket for sure these days. Not long coats. But in evenings temp drops sharply so it becomes harder to walk outside without fully covered. Its still not as cold as it'll get later but for anyone come from a warm weather, it can turn out different.
Still, for now, stick to sweater/jacket. In NYC there are several vendors everywhere where u can get a cap/topa and gloves if needed.

Re: New York!

The weather is schizo these days - some days you need a coat (warm fall coat, as opposed to proper winter) and other days you can get away with a warm sweater. As for things to do, I love the big bus tours - you get a fabulous overview of the entire city and can hop on/hop off as you wish.
**
Places to Eat**

  • Halal Guys – quick and cheap meal on the run
  • Kati Roll (halal and 4 locations)
  • Ravagh (Persian Restaurant)
  • Turkish Kitchen; Bukhara Grill; Indian and some Pakistani restaurants at 28[SUP]th[/SUP] and 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] (in other words, just walk through Little India and you’ll find places to eat)
  • There’s also the Smorgasburg on weekends in Brooklyn (its indoors for the winter season, otherwise they have it outdoors)

There are tons of restaurants to choose from, but it depends on your preferences! **

As for things to do/places to visit:**

  • Statue of Liberty/Battery Park
  • Empire State Building
  • Wall Street
  • Museums (Natural History, MET Gugenheim)
  • Central Park (carriage ride)
  • NoHo, SoHo
  • NYU/Columbia U

And of course, you can visit me (invitation is Guac-specific)

Re: New York!

im coming next week! So I’ll stick with a sweater/light coat

i would have loved to meet you! Unfortunatly I’ll be there for a short time and traveling with a group of people so it’ll be hard, if you stay around New York then next time! Thanks for all the ideas, I kind of have an idea now. I got conflicting reviews about big bus tours some said they were too packed or late so we are going to venture out and use the subway system! Hopefully that will go well

Re: New York!

I would add one more thing here and you can totally ignore this suggestion as I’m not aware of what resources you’ll be using and whats the schedule. But if you are into nature, see if you can rent a car and take few hours drive up north wuts called upstate NY to see beautiful colors of fall.
The closest you can check is Bear mountain (rockland county) which is like 1 hr drive from NYC but best will be catskills (around 3 hrs drive). But if none of these options are workable, make sure you visit central park I’m sure you and your family wont be disappointed.
