also go to chelsea market and try a little of everything from sara beth jams, to fresh baked bread, to clam chowder to shepard pies to 36 flavors of olive oil
most of food network chefs shop here or have little stores here.

One of my local favorites is Lenny and Johns on Flatbush Avenue by Flatlands.

Go to Cafe Lalo if you have time. Its a small cafe on the upper west side (where they filmed some scenes from "Youve Got Mail" ). They have a really good oreo cheesecake there.
You can also get good cheese cake walking around little italy and trying out the different bakeries and stuff.

And if you're in NYC, Halal guys is a MUST!
