New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

Yes, Amir Sohail agrees with PCB on this action but slight disagreement exists on the timing. PCB thinks it should be "rightnow", Amir thinks "never".

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

due to army rule , never promote deserving people
otherwise they will create problem for you

instead of making him captain they droped him from VC
and make a vc who don't deserve to be in the team

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

and this love of butt bring him in team as well
othewise based on talent , he doesn't deserve to be in the team

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

I have to say this…Pak players have giant-size egos. Now some are openly revolting against the elevation of a colleague…

Players oppose Salman’s elevation

LAHORE, June 22: A revolt-like situation is looming over naming opener Salman Butt national team’s vice-captain as some cricketers under Shahid Afridi are to meet the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf in Islamabad, most probably on Saturday.

Reliable sources and some players confirmed to Dawn that some of the squad members were demanding a senior player to be appointed as Shoaib Malik’s deputy.

“A group of six players will travel from Abbottabad to meet the PCB chief in Islamabad in the afternoon to express their viewpoint against the decision to select Salman.

“They have also complained about the PCB officials, especially Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan, for the unnecessary interference in the players’ affairs,” sources said.

Salman was appointed as the vice-captain in place of Mohammad Asif on Sunday in Bhurban by the PCB ad hoc committee.

The team members have also complained about manager Talat Ali, claiming that he had unnecessarily created a controversy when he asked Afridi to leave the seat of vice-captain (Salman) in the coaster in which the players were coming from the training camp to the hotel.

In fact, Salman, while regarding Afridi a senior player, had voluntarily vacated the seat for him. However, later Afridi and Talat exchanged hot words, the sources said.

Sources added the PCB Chief Operating Officer Shafqat Naghmi had also visited the camp on Thursday before leaving for London soon after hearing about the unrest among the cricketers.

He tried to sort out the matter but it seems he could not achieve desired results.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

^ yee tu hona hee tha

PCB bhee extremist hai. Ya total right ya total left, kabhee normal nahi hota. While appointment of Shoaib Malik was a right step I think appointment of Salman Butt (who is not an automatic choice for TEST and ODI) is nothing but provocative. After the experience of Younus Khan, they would have better off naming VC for each series or may be senior most player can take over for a moment if Shoaib Malik is out of ground.

**This was bound to happen.

Rebellion in Pak team over Salman Butt’s elevation as vice-captain**

Lahore, June 23 : The elevation of Salman Butt as vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team has created a revolt like situation in the squad.

Players led by Shahid Afridi are slated to meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf in Islamabad to discuss the issue.

The players are demanding that a senior player to be made vice-captain of the squad, the Dawn quoted a source, as saying.

“A group of six players led by Afridi will travel from Abbottabad to meet the PCB chief in Islamabad on Saturday, to express their viewpoint against the decision to make Butt vice-captain,” the source said.

The PCB ad hoc committee appointed Butt vice-captain in place of Mohammad Asif in Bhurban.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt.

so true. why did Afridi and co. not complain when Mohammad Asif who is more junior to Butt (in cricketing terms) was made vice-captain for the Abu Dhabi series? That said Butt did not deserve this elevation now considering he's only just recently made it into the one-day squad and is by no means an automatic selection in either team yet. Asif on the other hand has been performing consistently for a couple of years.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Whether or not Butt deserved to become the VC is a moot point.
Its not for the players to decide who becomes the VC. They just have to live with whatever decisions are made by the board (whether good or bad).
I mean, I dont like Dhoni becoming VC either in place of time-tested Yuvraj, but nobody in the team is protesting openly. That is not to say that Indian team is great by any means - just a tad bit more professional.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

I don't know how many of you remember but there was a news right before the appointment of Mohammad Asif as the VC back in May about Sallu being against Asif's appontment and was openly lobbying for Shahid Afridi for the VC position. Is it possible that Sallu is behind the "rebels"?

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

This bit from the above news article :

Seriously, can anybody imagine the above incident happening with the Aussie/NZ/English side. Only in Desi Land does ego/respect/reputation/seniority count for so much.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

this is loco!
but then again it was always expected, sooner or later.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Dont know about that - I mean, whats the difference between this and the Indian players meeting Pawar to insist on a foreign coach ? Can say that its not for the players to decide who becomes the coach - they have to live with whatever decisions are made by the board.

I was OK with that and I am OK with this - no different from the regular "feedback" that happens in any professional services firm, either behind the scenes or openly. If the end goal is the success of the organization, you do want to have this kind of feedback. Ideally, the employer (in this case the Board) would have done their homework and solicited this input before making the announcement. If that didnt happen (and it doesnt look like it happened here), its their fault.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

I dont believe dawn that much. But this isnt totally unexpected.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

By no means, I am saying that Indian team is great. Far from it, the Indian system is just as much politicized as Pak if not more. (perhaps more considering we have a full-time politician who knows zilch about Cricket as the BCCI President).
But the intra-players public bickering, back-biting and openly declared bitterness that goes on in the Pak team is unmatched by other Desi teams (like India).

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Appointment of VC is the Pcb prerogative, if a player or group of players find it difficult to handle, then they should be shown the door.

This is not a union or personal jageer, this is afterall a national side that has corporate needs. Afridi sud be thrown out of the side, he has always been a sore loser and bad team player, Pakistan does not need another grouping so early in its new phase of team development.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Chairman seems to be denying the rebellion. One thing is for sure, players and officials are not on the same page when it comes to future of Paksitan Cricket.

**‘Senior players have no objection on appointing Salman vice-captain’](Geo News: Latest News Breaking, Live Videos, World, Entertainment, Royal)

KARACHI: **Chairman Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) Dr. Nasim Ashraf said that the senior players have no objection on the appointment of Salman Butt as vice-captain of the national team.

Talking with Geo News, chairman PCB said that there is no truth in the news that the senior players are not happy over the appointment of Salman Butt as vice-captain and that they wanted to meet him in this connection.

Dr. Nasim Ashraf said that the decision of appointing Salman Butt as vice-captain was taken by the adhoc committee and the PCB has no reservations of any type from the players.

Re: New VC announced, Mr Butt./ Rebellion in team.

Sherry is right. To all the senior players (ahem, by senior players I mean Afridi, the non-performing dada abba of the team), shut up and find a spot in the test team first, moron. Atleast Butt has a role to play in test matches; what do you have?
