ehsan yep that was quite interesting to see.
funny to see gunners haters find comfortthat Arsenal did not with the FA cup, while their own geordie team is still trying to be in the top :)

huh? you made it sound like only us dislike Arsenal? or is it just me that Pakistanis like only Arsenal and MU?

yeah take the crown Wenger and shove it up your ass!

COME ON! Alan Shearer proved again that he is the all-time great striker - the season is on the line - and yet again Shearer comes up BIG! - he is an utter legend!

we had to equal score against Chelsea - which we did! Shay Given and Marco Ambrosio did some great stops - for once our defence stepped up!

YES COME ON! - The Champions League contention! we are sooo in it!

Proud supporter of Gunners since way back when ppl chanted boring boring arsenal..Not quite so boring now eh. A Londoner supporting his local team. If you are a geordie, u are more than welcome to support newcastle

well - i have always been a supporter for underdog in every sport i follow(except Cricket) - we(magpies) have always been underdog - and i like to live it that way - don't get me wrong - i do admire Arsenal - and what they have done to be reckon as one of the best soccer club(followed by MU) - but Wenger - i just don't like the person - and his dream of acheiving three titles in one year will never happened

WRITE IT DOWN - AND SEND IT WENGER!

Hey i have been supportign Arsenal since when they were underdogs ..remember "boring boring arsenal" the win in 1993 came after FA cup appearances and losses in finals to ipswich and westham in 78 and 80. Love him or hate him, Arsene made the gunners what they are today. Even this season, compared to the money Chelsea and United were spending, Wenger made good choices and did the best with what he had.

Surely i cant abandon my underdog hometown team just cuz they kick ass now :)

Toons just dislike us cuz we ended their FA cup dreams in 98, kinda like ManU did in 99. Although with 6 FA cup wins Newcastle has not always been an underdog, behind only ManU, Arsenal, Tot-Hot, and Villa. and with 13 appearances in FA cup finals, only behind ManU (15) and Arsenal (16)

Now when it comes to premiership, thats where toons have not won..ever if i recall right but were runners up in 96 and 97

u want to support some real underdogs...pick Leeds :)

Leeds? lol

wait there - i never said you to abondon your team - we don't dislike because you ended our dream - the problem is Arsenal gets away with penalities

as a manager - Wenger is fine and i do admire what he has accomplished with the team - and if i recall i had said it twice already in this thread but as a person - i don't like that guy - boy he sometimes make you laugh than an average comedian - hmmmm what did he say last year? that Arsenal were the best team? lol

yes - we never won a premeirship but its start - sooner or later we will. :)

Arsenal are just win away to remain unbeaten this season - that will be history in the making - see Fraudz and ehsan? i do admire what Arsenal have acheieved -

Magpies got butt kicked at Uefa cup - and we drew against Wolves this week - it has been a miserable week for us - ah Shearer missing the penalty! :(

putting it as a “miserbale week” is being very fair with newcastle, man we were pathetic, we lost important ground on liverpool+ villa now when it mattered the most, now we need to win @ southampton and @ liverpool which will be tough cos that’s the only way we’ll get the magic 4th champions league spot, our away form this season has been rubbish, we have only won 2 matches away from home this season and this stat’ doesn’t :help: the fact that, our remaining to games of this season r away from home and r very CRUCIAL to our champions league hope… now i personally think it’s too little too late, i can’t c us beating liverpool @ anfield we mite do soton’ @ st. mary’s but not liverpool i hope i’ll be proved wrong but with our key players dyer / jj / bellamy out we r already lagging behind :frowning:

Looks like Liverpool are going to clinch the last Champions league spot

Seriously, Newcastle should get rid of Titus Bramble, and buy a real defender. He just seems to go from bad to worse.

Robson devastated by draw](BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Newcastle United | Robson devastated by draw)

Saints 3-3 Newcastle
Newcastle manager Bobby Robson was devastated after the 3-3 draw with Southampton ended his side’s hopes of Champions League football next season.
He said: "I’m hurting very much - but I can’t complain about my players.

"It was one of the most thrilling games of football in the Premiership this season - but it didn’t go our way.

“It’s been such an unlucky night for us - but you get nothing for bad luck. It might be a valuable point in the end but it may not be good enough either.”

A win against Southampton would have meant Newcastle could have clinched a top four spot with a win at Liverpool on Saturday.

But Robson’s team now need to win at Anfield to make sure of Uefa Cup action next season.

Robson added: "We nearly didn’t get anything from this game. We hit the bar twice but their goalkeeper made a world class save from Alan Shearer.

"Sixth place would be a disaster in a way, after finishing third last year and fourth before that.

We enjoyed the Uefa Cup this year and we would look forward to being in it again.

"If we had played like this away for most of the season we would be laughing - but ‘if’ is the biggest word in football.

"We’ve played poorly away from home and not taken our chances - and giving away silly goals has cost us dearly in the end.

Robson, 71, has admitted that missing out on a Champions League place is a massive financial blow but he added: "It is not over yet.

"We can still get back into Europe if we win at Anfield on Saturday and we will be trying to do that.

Why does Robson always have to leave it till the last five minutes to make changes?

"We enjoyed the Uefa Cup this year and we would look forward to being in it again. The Champions League is the Blue Riband but plenty of teams would like to be in the Uefa Cup.

"And it won’t stop us signing players. We’ve always been very careful to keep to our budget with signings.

“This is certainly not the end of the club, not by a long way.”

Robson and his players have come under fire this season and reports have claimed that there could be personnel changes at St James’ Park.

However, Robson stated: "Alan Shearer and Gary Speed still have a year to go.

“I have got about 33, although that could be minutes. But, no, we are going to keep giving it everything.”

this sucks. i would have loved to see shearer play in champions league. toons deserve to atleast make it to UEFA.

the magpies will really have to dig deep @ anfield i seriously can't c us getting the 3 points given the way we have performed away from home this season

Now that the season is over, i thought I'd go back to the first page of this thread and look over people's predictions before the start of the season. Two things came up straight away. No one here was predicting Chelsea to finish higher than 5th. And the Newcastle fans were being extremely optimistic at the start of the season.

History has been made...gunners did it..
brilliant...simply marvellous

Hats off to gunners. :k:

It hurts to say this but........Congratulations gunners.

The new Invincibles

Arsene Wenger spoke of his pride after Arsenal completed an unbeaten league season with a 2-1 win over Leicester to spark joyous scenes at Highbury.
The Gunners paraded the Premiership title in front of a delighted crowd.

And the loudest cheers were reserved for star striker Thierry Henry, skipper Patrick Vieira and Wenger.

“As long as you believe, then it is possible. It’s a fantastic moment. I always had that dream and to fulfil it is marvellous,” said Wenger.

"I think this is the best title win because we have always been at the top and to lead from the front is difficult and not to lose a game is amazing.

“These players want to get better and I’m confident they want more.”

Wenger is to be awarded the freedom of the London Borough of Islington after completing his third title triumph.

Vieira saluted the Gunners’ team spirit as they became the first team to go through a top-flight campaign unbeaten since Preston in 1888-89.

“We have a really good dressing room, and we give our best, always 100% for the team,” he said.

"Our intention from the start of the season was to go unbeaten, because you want to win.

“You never know how far you can go, but this is fantastic. This team will be remembered forever.”

And Vieira warned Arsenal’s rivals that they would fix a “very high target” as they bid to improve next season.

That was echoed by veteran Dutch star Dennis Bergkamp, who has agreed a deal to stay at Highbury until the end of next season.

“This is definitely the best title because we are unbeaten,” he said.

"There is so much talent in this team. We know each other well now and you can see it on the pitch.

“We will keep trying to get better.”

And Arsenal’s England defender Sol Campbell labelled the season “magical”.

“We have played some fantastic football. This season has been tremendous. I am happy and there is more to come,” he added.

Liverpool 1-1 Newcastle](BBC SPORT | Football | Premiership | Liverpool 1-1 Newcastle)

Newcastle rescued something from their season by earning a place in the Uefa Cup with a draw at Liverpool.
Shola Ameobi put Newcastle ahead when he slotted home after being set up by team-mate Lee Bowyer.

Newcastle could have doubled their lead when Bowyer and Alan Shearer combined to set up Darren Ambrose to miss.

Liverpool levelled with a stunning strike from Michael Owen after a pinpoint pass from Steven Gerrard, but Newcastle held on for a crucial point.

The draw means Newcastle edge out Aston Villa for the final place in Europe on goal difference.

For much of the season the game was expected to be a Champions League decider.

But with Newcastle’s challenge for fourth falling away there was just the ‘consolation’ of a Uefa Cup spot for the Magpies to battle for.

The Kop were at their cruellest, taunting the away fans with chants of ‘Champions League - we’re having a laugh’.

On the pitch Liverpool impressed early on with some neat passing, but Newcastle came out firing on all cylinders as they looked to snatch something from another season that promised so much but has delivered so little.

KEY MOMENTS
25 mins: Ameobi scores after good work from Bowyer
40 mins: Ameobi is forced off through injury
66 mins: Owen scores a delightful equaliser for the Reds
Liverpool were first to seriously threaten and after a flowing move Dietmar Hamann produced a nice strike against his former club that was straight at Shay Given.

But with Ameobi always a threat Newcastle responded with Bowyer testing Jerzy Dudek, who had to dive to his left to save.

Emile Heskey and Hamann both failed to find the target with efforts on goal before Danny Murphy set up Heskey who miscued a volley over the bar.

But it was the Magpies who took the lead as they hit Liverpool on the counter-attack and Bowyer picked out Ameobi in space and he found the net via the far post.

Ameobi was forced off with an ankle knock just before half-time, meaning a return to action for Craig Bellamy and the Welshman was immediately into the action with a free-kick off target.

John Arne Riise and Gerrard combined to cut back for Heskey but he completely mis-hit again.

Newcastle should have doubled their lead when Bowyer crossed for Shearer, who headed the ball back for Ambrose who spurned a simple chance from close range.

The much-maligned Newcastle defence was having one of their better days, but there was nothing they could do about Liverpool’s equaliser.

Gerrard picked out Owen with an angled pass and the England striker, who had been well contained for much of the game, broke free to finish with a clinical strike.

There was some nervy moments late on for Newcastle as Liverpool pressed for a win, but the Magpies held on.
