So election for new pope is currently going on in vatican and has taken more than 15 hours so far. Only black smoke coming out and catholic world awaits its new pope.
Every time I see it, it reminds me of ‘Angels and Demons’
Why not an Arab pope or a woman pope? Why does it have to be some white old man.
Catholic priesthood remains closed to women, thus there will likely never be a women pope as the pope is selected from current cardinals.
The majority of Catholics now are in the Southern Hemisphere so it would make the most sense to choose an African or Latin American cardinal to become the next pope, but I doubt that will ever happen. The European lobby is too strong in the Vatican. Just like the chances of ever seeing an American pope are next to nil.
Argentina is celebrating......Bergoglio becomes Pope Francis 1st.
apparently this cardinal is also 76 years old....so we'll be witnessing another election likely in the next decade depending on his health.
I hope and pray that his tenure will prove to be one that bodes well for relations between the major religions of the world.
40% of the Catholic Church is Hispanic/Latin American so this is very telling indeed! And the first Jesuit Pope ever...taking the name Pope Francis is very symbolic as well considering how St Francis was known for being a champion of the poor.

and he has chosen to appear on the balcony without the red fur....further emphasizing his humble nature and lifestyle.
what a soft and benevolent voice he has.......
he must be feeling such a great responsibility as he stands there before such a large crowd......and with the thought that this before him represents only a tiny fragment of the flock that he must lead.
i vunder who roger mahoney voted for. and why he is still being allowed to stay around.
I wonder if he was chastised by the other cardinals while in the conclave......did they ostracise him by not socializing with him......did they offer condolences......I wonder.....

A Jesuit is a priest that has been educated and ordained into the Society of Jesus. This a religious order founded by St. Ignatius De Loyola and they are often referred to as "God's Marines" partly in reference to the military origins of its founder and partially because they tend to be one of the more out-spoken and sometimes militant of the religious orders. Their strongest point is their dedication to education. They are also credited with having a strong influence in the Development of "liberation theology", a very controversial school of thought which has been used as a basis for rebellion in some countries.

i doubt it, he is happily blogging about his trip to rome and meeting the new pope, and tweeting too - despite vatican's ban on such stuff - they dont have the will or desire to enforce anything.
Jesuits are an order of Catholic priests known to be the most simple and hard working. They are known for working in the most impoverished of conditions, do not really have any of the pomp and circumstance that usually comes with Catholicism.

This gentleman lives a simple lifestyle. Rather than live in excellent quarters and ride in chauffered vehicles he lives in a small apartment and takes public transportation.

Then, Pope Francis I did something which surprised many. He asked the faithful - before he gave them the Urbi et Orbi Apostolic blessing - to pray for him. He bowed before those assembled in the square during a moment of silence.

He has started well. He has chosen the name of the little poor man of Assissi, Francis. He is whom God had appeared and said "Go and Rebuild my Church which you can see is falling down in ruins." . Hopefully this pope can start the reform process the church needs.
