The PAF has introduced ten new rank badges for officers (The News, July 6). Since 1964, PAF’s uniform or attachments, both for officers and airmen, are changed with every change in command as if the PAF operational role also changes. These changes are very costly for the officers as well as for the public exchequer to provide free replacements to the airmen. Each change takes considerable time for implementation in the entire PAF. During the interim period, the PAF personnel are seen wearing different uniforms, both old and new. By the time the change is completed, the command changes and a new cycle starts.
Now, the ten new rank badges for the officers will make recognition of ranks very difficult even for the well-informed people who are familiar with the rank badges worn since 1947. Even the most advanced air forces of prosperous USA and UK have not changed uniforms or rank badges so far.
I would be grateful if an air force expert could kindly explain the operational advantage of frequent changes in uniform and now badges, both costly and time-consuming, to make us wiser on this topic.
Oh man I thought you were going to post some nice pics of the new badges. Instead this is some Khan sahib have constipation due to channas and ghobi (chick peas and cauli flower).
Khoda Pahar or nikla maryal sa chooha (Making a moutain of a mole-hill).
^the new badges are nothing pretty...
It was an extremely sad day when the new chief decided to change the rank insignia murdering the prestigous traditional identity of the air service...how unfortunate, unpatriotic, pathetic and irresponsible...there is no logical argument supporting the change infact I havent heard any argument for it at all yet...all officers I'v heard from have been against it. God knows what bee stung the new chief...? And as usual once the authority has its mind set on smthng there's no reasoning, just decision and implementation right away...
I hope the old (actual Air Force) insignia is restored somehow...
They should have written "La Illaha Allah" or something religious on the batches so that Allah(swt) is constantly protecting our soldiers when they need it most :p
