You're all so nice! I wouldn't be comfortable inviting them over because I like my privacy. Don't get me wrong, we're all friendly, we talk when we're outside, we wave when we're driving by, we'll ring if we need to borrow something, we just don't invite each other inside unless they're at the door (to borrow/ask something).
For curiosity's sake, by inviting the neighbors over do you mean your immediate neighbors to the left, right and front or the whole street?

Meem , actually I agree, thats one of my concerns actually , coz you know we will be moving into a new neighbourhood , we have no clue who is who … any one of them could turn out to be a wierdo … I am thinking giving an intro card and either cookies or cake and giving them it by hand , should be good enough hai na …
and then when i get to know them slightly later on , I can invite them for a tea , at least by then i will know who i like and who i dont like

Since you have moved to a gora neighborhood there must be a swiming pool in the neighborhood. Wait for summer/spring and throw a pool party . Also set up a couple of tables with goodies from desh. Like mithai , wedding dresses , national flag , currency , passports, books , shoes like khussa , hukka , dhoti , etc . They will love it all and would remember you forever and you will build some bridges between your desh and wherever you live now.
What ? You wanted some fresh and new ideas , this is the best I can do and that is what I intend to do this summer/spring. :)

I do not know which country you live in . Mingling with goras of USA is very easy no matter , what color , race , religion , age you belong to.
Living in a cocoon never helps build the bridges which we desi people need desperately now a days.
There is no harm in mingling as long as guys hug guys and girls hug girls.

I keep thinking if we ever moved into a new 'respectable' neighbourhood it's going tobe like that cheesy PDiddy song 'badboys for life' as the family is full of some 'colourful' people, lol.

wow...i don't even think about my neighbors much, or even notice when a new one comes. altho i do have new arab neighbors with super annoying kids who ring our door endlessly until someone opens the door when their mom wants to send us something( we also send them stuff now)
