New Multinational Force in Iraq under US

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/05/24/iraq.main/index.html

The United States presented a draft U.N. resolution Monday that would give the U.N. Security Council’s approval to a new Iraqi government and multinational peacekeeping force.

It also would formally end a yearlong U.S.-led occupational administration and authorize a multinational force under U.S. command for a year.

Talk about old wine in a new bottle.

sigh i hafta school u on the whole wine deal..
a better phrase would be "new wine in an old bottle"

I thought it was a more apt play on words. Its the same stale wine ("get your people to Iraq and get killed under our command"), just being packaged under a "Multinational force" instead of the "Coalition of the (un)willing"

I think AL-kayda saw it comming and placed the bounty on Annans head.

^ :hehe: I’ve always said the UN was well balanced.

ahem.. Old wine is a good thing, it does not go "stale", it gets better.

MyVoice and I are examples of the same phenomenon......

you guys gonna watch Bush's speech tonight at the war college?

I'm throwing a Bush speech party.

Its not for west coast folks. 5 pm? grrr.... I'll probably catch a re-run later on C-Span. Though watching a banged up Bush - literally (those who don't know he took a stumble from a mountain bike over a weekend, and apparently has evidence to prove it on his face) isn't that much of a turn-on, but it will be interesting to see what he is saying. It will most probably be the same thing that US mentioned to the UN this morning.... this multinational force.

dinn networks refuse to air it due to sweeps etc?

oh yeah this time its a bike, last time it was a pretzel, when would he really admit that he was wasted off his ass and fell.

You missed the Segway fall, that happened some time between the Pretzel episode and the Mountain Bike mishap.

Networks are not showing it. Its pushed to cable. MSNBC, Foxnews, C-Span, CNN... these are showing it. To be fair, anyone who doesn't have cable (better yet, satellite) in this day and age, first need to figure out how to get cable, then worry about what Bush is going to do with Iraq.

more of the same

^ Agree. None of what he said was really news. The five steps he outlined are:

  1. Handing over authority to a sovereign Iraqi government.
  2. Establishing security.
  3. Continuing to rebuild Iraq’s infrastructure.
  4. Encouraging more international support.
  5. Moving toward a national election in Iraq that “will bring forward new leaders empowered by the Iraqi people.”

Its just rhetorical, cz US has been saying the same thing again and again since last year. They have tried to bring in more countries in, but none are willing to send their troops into this mess. They will now try and push for a UN resolution, but since they are still insisting on a US command, and seeing what we all see on our televisions every evening (more deaths in Iraq) so I don’t see how other countries will change their minds about sending their troops into Iraq.

I found this interesting:
Bush’s former special envoy to the Middle East, retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, said Sunday that staying the course in Iraq is a bad idea when “the course is headed over Niagara Falls.”

Hmmm Bush mentioned that Abu Gharib prison will be demolished

I think he made a mistake he was ment to say Abu Gharib would be destroyed along with the American mission in Iraq!

I doubt it.

Lets wait and hear whats Kerry's vision for Iraq is. He is expected to make a speech on Thursday.

Kerry has a vision???

It will more probably be a plan on how to attack Iraq, and at the same time train Iraqis how to defend against an attack.

You knoe Bush used the word "OCCUPATION" in his speech indicating that the occupation will be over. Freudian slip....

No Freudian slip. He talked about the "occupation" in his last news conference too.

Or he could have a better exit strategy than Bush.
