On the Nadia Khan show this morning, they were showing clips of a new Pakistani movie with Veena and some new guy - anyone catch what movie it was? It seemed more advanced in its technological aspects, although they gave it a bad rating.

Yeah it was MuhabbataN SachiyaN. I said the same thing when I saw the clips, the cinematography has improved slightly. The male lead was decent looking.

Punjabi films will always be Punjabi. Don't expect an upper class/educated/sophisticated audience to turn up for them [as you would expect for any regional film, like Pashto etc.]. Too much damage has been done by Maula Jats and Whishi Gujjars and thier likes. Having said that, Rafique is possibly the best director the Lahore industry has, his Salakhain was pretty good. I hope he manages something with this one, though it will be a hard sell for someone like me.

^^ There are no comparisons. Pakistan is unique culturally, linguistically, in a heck lot of ways relative to our eastern neighbour -- isnt that the reason why they made that country?? How on earth can you have a thumkaa-ing Madhuri in Pak...r u out of your mind?
Its exactly the same reason why the film industry is such a mess. The audience primarily comprises of rickshaw/truck drivers who again, love Madhuri and her thumkaas. Like you. Sadly, when the locals try to ape the same film with the local budgets [like a crore max] they make pathetic films, which drive everyone from the theaters. The fact that this Bollywood singing-and-thumkaa cinema is so heavily patronised is also the reason why the Lahore red light area remains the primary auditioning ground for that industry. So decent audiences are driven away, and no decent person would choose to work with those Ilyaas Kashmiri thumkaa productions.
Hopefully, Shoaib Mansoor/Mehreen Jabar will bring about some solid change in the audience taste.

Now thats the way, yea hopefully one day pakistani industry will thrive too.
btw, i am pakistani too. but the only reason i say madhuri etc is because everyone wants a film to watch which is good, and pakistani industry is not doing that. so automatically yes i admit people like me will go to other productions and watch their films, even now i am ready that as soon as pakistani industry comes out with something similar to bollywood (not exactly that theme and storylines) and hollywood, i am willing to leave bollywood but because they are not coming out with such things then where else are we supposed to go. for example now, madhuri is coming out with a film which is currently in the making called 'naach' so what pakistani industry need to do is bring out something similar to this film so people are divided because they will have same thing but in two different versions one in bollywood style (naach) and one in pakistani style but ofcorse keeping limits as to how far the film is in terms of decency acting etc.
hopefully the film trailor which was shown on nadia khans show. this film is better than alot. hopefully.
and no i dont totally critisize pakistani industry they have tried their best to which they can do.
but yes back to the actual topic, hopefully this film should be good as its been describes as being a little more modern.
and i like nadia khan show very much. shes so good at it.
