New mega industrial zone to set up in Mirpur
MIRPUR: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has inked a plan to establish a new mega industrial zone over an area of 20,000 kanals in Mirpur in the near future, official sources said.
The new industrial zone, sources told reporters here Friday, is proposed to be established at Moori, on the Mirpur Jatlan Road for which the required state-owned and private land was being acquired by the government to materialise the plan.
Sources said the AJK government was giving due attention to promotion of business and industrial activities in AJK where a conducive atmosphere was already available. The state government intended to provide all possible facilities to the existing and intending entrepreneurs to bring them at par with other parts of the country, sources added.
The sources further said since it was primarily the responsibility of the AJK government to provide required infrastructure at the existing and the proposed mega industrial zone in Mirpur, the plan also involved construction of a wide network of roads, uninterrupted supply of power and water and telephone facilities in new and existing industrial estates. They said the government also intended to give relief to those industrialists who have to face huge overhead freight charges for raw material transportation from various parts of Pakistan to industrial units operating in AJK.
The industrialisation of AJK may prove to be helpful to overcome unemployment, particularly among the educated youth in addition to poverty alleviation in the area. app
