Mecca - The Sentinel

Isn’t this one of the signs of the End Of The World, that there would be competitions to build high rise buildings?

Re: New Mecca

i dont know how accurate the news is but its quite foolish to be building high rises next to ka'aba. This will become a big problem if future expansion is needed to accomodate more hajaaj.

Re: New Mecca

There have been competitions to build the highest buildings since the early 1900s.

But yup-- it’s a sign.

Re: New Mecca

I lived in Makkah for 4 years when my dad worked there.

The Saudis have no respect for history. These guys cut down a mountain with an ancient Turkish Fort which guarded Makkah to make a Hotel in its place.

Re: New Mecca

Ok, also can you elaborate on skyscraper Qayamat sign?

This is the first I have ever heard of it

Re: New Mecca

Its from hadith, you can probably find more info on it at harunyahya.com's website. Check out the "end of times" section.

As far as respect for history goes... well I don't like the saudi kingdom but you want to save the history or provide better services and places for future muslims and hajjis? What are we going to do with Turkish fort when it becomes an obstacle in the way of Muslims during worship and other high traffic events of the year? Someone has to fulfil the sayings of the prophet in the hadith as far as signs of judgement day so let it be the saudi royal kingdom. (not that anybody is forcing them!)

Re: New Mecca

Please don't equate signs of the Day of Judgement with negative morals. A sign is just that - a sign. Doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Re: New Mecca

jaan leva, there are ways to protect landmarks yet expand. There were threads on this topic earlier which I can dig up, if you would like.

Regardless, The logic of suadis is flawed in this case though. So in expansion of the mosque and the commerical area serving the pilgrims you tear down historic structures, yet you build the hotels and all right outside the Mosque? so now when you need to expand, will you tear down the hotel?

Re: New Mecca

How idiotic!

Re: New Mecca

As a side note, when I was just there recently for umrah, I saw magnificent newly built hotels and structures in Medinah. The King that day had just been announcing the new building projects to expand the Madinah mosque, which would involve tearing down the new hotels that had just been built. What the locals were telling us is that every new King tries to expand the current Madinah and Meccan masjids, as sort of their contribution to Islam.

I don't see it as glorious and blessed. I see it as wasted a whole lot of money with unintelligent planning. Why invest in building up property, only to tear it down within 5 years later?

Re: New Mecca

Even more disgusting are the mansions for the rich dotted along the hills overseeing holy sites...

Re: New Mecca

It wasn’t that ancient… it was from the 1800s. And to Saudis, that fort was a symbol of the memory of Turk oppression.

Remember that us desis hold an immense love of Turks to this day. But many arabs, even today, hold a resentment of Turks for making arabs second-class citizens in arab lands.

Re: New Mecca

Why hate them for being rich? For all you know those same people also give generously to charities.

Re: New Mecca

I don't hate them...I hate the royal family (who are pretty much the source of anyone else's wealth...)

The term usurpers come to mind; at best they've mismanaged their development (which is forgivable considering the horrid advice they've been getting from Western business interests).

But the distribution of national wealth should not be considered a charitable act...if government was not restricted to one family, I doubt such villas would litter the hillside of mecca...and what's more, so close to the holy places...

The royalty take great privileges...

Re: New Mecca

That makes me love the Turks even more.

Re: New Mecca

but still man,

thats histroy they are destroying

Re: New Mecca

Of course, logic of saudis is flawed in many other ways as well but what can we do? They don’t have a body that decides and votes on what to do with these historic sites and if they should be saved.

They don’t even allow women to drive so their abuse of historic sites is least of my worries. :snooty:

Re: New Mecca

that is true
