Last year saw some new ‘jodis’ creating magic at the box office, case in point being Deepika Padukone - Ranveer Singh Ram Leela], Aamir Khan - Katrina Kaif Dhoom 3], Aditya Roy Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor Aashiqui 2] and Dhanush-Sonam Kapoor Raanjhanaa]. While many of these films has primarily starred newcomers, it is going to be an interesting trend in months to come when some top superstars would be united for the first time ever.
Salman Khan - Jacqueline Fernandez [Kick]
The last time when Salman Khan had worked with a newcomer, it was in Dabangg where he had introduced Sonakshi Sinha. Though Jacqueline Fernandez is not really a newcomer, she is the newest heroine of Salman Khan in Kick. This is a huge high for Jacqueline who is sitting pretty on the mega success of Race 2 where she had Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham for company.
Aamir Khan - Anushka Sharma [P.K.]
Call it a coincidence no less but immediately after Dhoom 3, Aamir would be seen with a new leading lady in his next film too. He and Anushka Sharma have never shared a screen space together but that would happen now with the Rajkumar Hirani directed affair. Though speculations are that Anushka is in fact paired with Sushant Singh Rajput in the film, one would rather wait and watch before jumping to conclusions.
Riteish Deshmukh - Bipasha Basu [Humshakals]
Over the years, not many imagined Riteish Deshmukh and Bipasha Basu to be paired opposite each other. As a matter of fact, despite being around for a decade each, they were not summoned by any filmmaker for sharing screen space. However, after quite a few casting calls, ultimately Sajid Khan decided to do something that no one had tried before and brought the ‘jodi’ together for Humshakals.
Abhishek Bachchan - Asin [All Is Well]
In her successful Bollywood stint so far, Asin has acted with 40 years plus heroes in each of her films. With Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar as her co-stars, Asin has delivered many hits. Ironically, when she was seen with the youngest hero so far (Abhishek Bachchan), it was as a sister (Bol Bachchan). This would change now with Umesh Shukla’s All Is Well where they are a couple.
Ranbir Kapoor - Anushka Sharma [Bombay Velvet]
This is one ‘jodi’ that is indeed going to get some spark running on the big screen. Both Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma come with an inherent energy that is their hallmark. In fact it is rather surprising that they have not been seen together so far. However, with Anurag Kashyap bringing them in a dramatic affair Bombay Velvet, one waits to see if this ‘jodi’ would have a rather unconventional play on screen.
