Dear List,
Islamist Shi’ite Ibrahim Jaafari was named as prime minister of Iraq.
Jalal Talabani a Kurd was sworn in as president.
There are two vice presidents, one a Shi’ite, the other Sunni.
The division of power between the various peoples seems a positive start in my thinking. What do you think?

AAG, I think that the only people who will agree with you are the other non-muslim Americans (aka gluttons for punishment) who regularly visit Guppieville and a few others.
Most of the muslim WA posters are hoping for this to fail miserably and will look for any signs of division in the ranks.
It appears that the Iraqi people don't care what we, or these "others" think though. They seem determined to make this work, at least for the time being. I for one hope this works, God knows these people have seen enough war and violence.

It seems that a lot of pundits and columnists in the USA are not happy with Jaafari's appointment.
