Re: New Intifada Declared
I agree, its very hard to comprehend for many in the west that how come a country so deeply dictatorial in nature supports an emerging democracy, and that’s also in the Middle East. It seems like plain bigotry, you don’t have democracy at home but you are helping democracy in another country. Its a fact that Lebanon after a long civil war had the chance to go through three peaceful democratically elected governments, with out blood shed, and the liberation of the Southern Lebanon from Israel all under the nose of 14,000 Syrian troops. The three main factions in Lebanon, the old civil war players, the Sunni, the Shiia and the Christians are all in the democratically elected government now. I think it’s better if they decide through elections if they want Syrian peacekeeping forces there or not.
The western governments are just poking their nose in a matter, which has already been agreed upon since 1989. I think if the Syrians are really considering to pull out the troops, then watch out for a high level delegation visiting Riyadh.
