New History, We Were They Not Affected

We are writing our nation’s new history as it has dawned on us after 9/11 that our so far read history books, special 14th August newspapers supplements, speeches all were written wrong. It has dawned on us that Dr. Iqbal is a worthless poet and he never floated the idea of a separate country. It has now dawned on us that Quai-e-Azam in fact destroyed the Sub Continent Muslims in as much as had we not been small children at that time we would not have opted to come to Pakistan.

Every opportunist, every so called liberal and of modern thoughts is taking advantage of it. An article has appeared in Daily Khaleej Times of Dubai on 25 April 2005 from Islamabad dateline. It quotes that history Professor Naeem Afsar Mughal concedes with a tinge of regret that the school text books HIS students read in Azad Kashmir are biased against India. He further says “Reading history only gives you pleasure when there is no preconceptions”.

This is not merely Professor Naeem rather there are hundreds of writers, columnists, so call intellectual talking on the same lines since 9/11. Profession Naeem is 57 years teaching history as a professor since 20 years in Muzaffarbad. As a common man I have two simple questions. First if our history books were biased why did Professor Naeem kept on teaching his students with wrong books and why did not he disclosed this before 9/11. Is he competent on history? If so why then he did not brought his today’s thoughts through articles, his speeches in the university/college, published unbiased books. Secondly question is all these books being taught since 1947 in our school colleges were biased and Professor Naeem himself read these same biased books right from his primary to university level then why he did not became a “biased” person but he despite reading all these biased books still is a “liberal, independent, judicious”.
