I am so excited to have found this page. When it comes to non desi food, I can make about anything (desserts are my speciality) but the minute I have to make pakistani food I start panicking lol.

Looking forward to getting some real recipes here :slight_smile:

Welcome to the forums. Please post some non-desi recipes.

Plus, to be honest, all the guppans do cut and paste when it comes to posting recipes. I know many of them personally and they dont even know how to boil an egg. So please dont be too optimistic about finding anything on this forum, more than what is already printed on the back of shaan masala packet.

I love this forum! I am a foodie and experiment in the kitchen all the time - Pakistani food used to make me panic too but not anymore.

Lusi - i think it makes me and others panic because there are so many different types of spices. and i personally dont know them all and haven’t figured out what when to use what. im good at following recipes tho!

Yes, but there are spices and herbs used in other cuisines as well.

However, the 4 basic spices for beginners are:

salt (to taste)
coriander powder (for a 4-6 ppl curry= almost 3/4 tsp)
garam masala (1/4 - 1/2 tsp. I mostly stick with 1/4)
haldi/tumeric powder (1/2- 1tsp)
red chilli powder (optional and to taste)
