Meet Army General Joseph L. Votel who will be serving as the new Commanding General of the United States Central Command. Gen. Votel will be taking on the responsibilities of Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, who has lead CENTCOM since March of 2013. Gen. Votel will oversee U.S. military efforts and operations in CENTCOM AOR which stretches from Egypt to Pakistan.
Previously Gen. Votel, was head of the U.S. Special Operations Command also located in Tampa, FL. During his testimony in front of U.S. Senate Arms Committee, Gen. Votel acknowledged the sacrifices of the Pakistani military and called for continued support of, and cooperation with Pakistan.
“The Pakistan military continues to play a visible role in efforts to reduce safe havens in Fata … while at the same time actively countering militant groups, including Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, and the newly-emerged ISIL-KP,” he said.
