With my date approaching fast, even though there are less than 10 weeks left. I still need to pack my hospital bag! I have some questions …
Do you use toilettery products straight away on new born skin like johnsons baby shampoo, powder, bath, cream, oil etc..? Or is it best to wait for a bit? How far until we can use the products.
What about wipes? When do we start using them? Johnsons have special wipes for new born.., is that safe?
What brand is best for these products?
Huggies are closing down nd have discontinued their products such as wipes.. Shall I stock them up for later use? Do they have best before date?
Typically you should hold off till the 24 hour period is up! on my newbie baby i’d just dipped the wipe in warm water to take off any chemical or somewhat and then used it…Why can’t you use another brand like Pampers for wipes? those are equally great like the huggies
You still have lots of time…I packed my hospital bag the morning of ‘giving birth’
Check with your hospital, but most likely you won’t need anything until you leave the hospital. Until that point they’ll provide for the baby (and probably also send you home with some samples). You probably only need your own toiletries and then going home outfits for you and baby.
I would recommend against Johnsons shampoo, as it’s known to be drying. I use Aveeno, but there are a lot of other good ones out there too. In the beginning you’ll just do a light sponge bath most likely, until the cord falls off. Talcum powder has been implicated with some health issues, so I avoided it. Not sure what others have found.
We used wipes in the beginning, but then found really water is best. Initially it may be hard to carry the baby to the sink each time, so you can wet a soft paper towel to clean the baby.
For bath stuff and lotions, I’ve used Aveeno over Johnsons. Oil you can use olive and almond, or baby oil if you prefer. For diapers we used Pampers and had no trouble, but I know other people who preferred Huggies. Sometimes it really depends on the size or gender of the baby. No matter what, I’m sure there will be leaks and a lot of trial and error, so just see what works out best for you guys.
Not sure you need to load up specifically on Huggies stuff. Wipes also sometimes dry out in the packages.
well in my case, I was given toiletries for myself and baby, they gave me some mustela and jhonson product, jhonson caused rashes on my baby skin so I switched to mustela excellent love it, heard great reviews about aveeno especially for dry skin unfortunately not available in Dubai.
but I carried my own toiletries to hospital, wipes I never used in beginning, I used to dip cotton pads in luke warm water n use tht, for first month after tht it was direct washing, wipes whether jhonson , huggies pampers almost all are same, I just buy alcohol free ones.
I used huggies from the beginning no issues, never tried any other brand so no comments but I have seen ppl using pampers also who have no issues.
used olive oil for message, never used telcom powder, baby’s nose was blocked so doc advised me.
for first month I gave her bath alternate days not daily, after tht daily n sometimes twice a day keeping in mind hot Dubai weather.
Thanks guys! I am open to other brands too. Just heard huggies were closing down and are doing special offers/promotions in their product lines. Although they will still sell wipes n pull ups.. I thought I’d stock up n get best of offers..
