Nation has been given a good news in the new budget that financial measures based on imported thinking will creates 10 lacs (or 10 million; exact figure not remembered) new jobs.

Since first Benazir tenure a new employment strategy is in vogue in our beloved Pakistan. Benazir terminates and sends home all employed during tenure of Nawaz on the ground that all those were appointed on political basis. Nawaz Sharif sends home recruited during Benazir on the same ground. This has become a standard practice that each successive government sends home already employed and brings new faces on “honest merits”. This policy now is not limited to the change of Government. Even on change of management. In Hyderabad Sindh 4-5 months back new Medical Superintendent after taking over charge sent all 30 personnel home on the ground previous MS did not recruit them on merit.

So new 10 lacs people would be appointed, thanks to good policies of our imported Finance Minister (now PM – GOD may keep our elders, retired, pensioners, widows under HIS BLESSINGS). And to pave way for these 10 lacs new vacancies, taking lead to be the “First”, PTCL as a first trench has announced 35% retrenchment of its staff.

I am double minded about this.

On one hand it seems lame that people who were bharti during a prevous regime are let go, on the other hand if this vicious cycle ends and at some point ppl are recruited in such organizations based on merit and then they are let go by a diff govt it will be a real problem.

Some of these orgs are not the most efficient ones and have the wrong ppl there just because they knew someone who knew someone but do not have the rigjht skills or are not performing. If ppl like those are weeded out there is no problem, as long as they are not replaced by similar ppl again.
