I design equipment that works with 460/230Volts Drive Systems (high frequency inverters), infact I just designed a remote operator station recently that is connected serially to a drive that can potentially go upto 1600VAC…

Most of these electronic items, especially cell phones undergo something called, a high-potential test (EE’s call it a hi-pot for short). Equipment which undergoes a highpot test is designed in such a way that there is adeq. clearance for high voltage according to IEC standards in case of a high voltage risk. This article for sure seems fake to me, but you cant just say there ‘too little voltage’ coming from the cell phone, as a cell phone does not have an optical isolation barrier between the AC end, and the DC end, and in case of a breakdown, or possibly lightning, AC signal will flow through (toasting the little regulator in between) the insulation material will go into dielectric breakdown (which is why they do an insulation resistance test) , and those saying theres no metallic unit to make contact, in that case ‘arcing’ can occur and take the person holding a device down with him. So the point is, whats said in the article can actually happen if the cell phone manufacturers werent careful enough. Atleast in North America and Europe, there are regulations and standards because of which there are tests done to ensure the device is safe.

Afridi, they can explode if the battery charging circuitory is faulty, or even if the Printed Circuit Board wasnt designed properly, as its an art (trust me, this is one thing that the chinese are bad at, american board designers have the definitive edge)… Also, certain dying batteries also emit hydrogen and its very combustable, even a little spark.

Can we use it or not? Skip the engineering mumbo jumbo meray cheetay . I do not intend on dying at such a young age, so jaldi batao.

^ lol as long as its not manufactured by some khota-kabar company in China, which you have never heard of before, I'd say go for it! Companies like Nokia, Motorola etc spend millions in safety and research and they're good!

yes batteries have exploded, esp the 2 number batteries which are often sold at kiosks, phone manufacturers often warn against using those batteries which were not recommended by them.

Once I felt a slight shock with my phone but I guess it was because my feet were wet and bare and my mobile cover is metal and was charging.
Now my question is I charge my phome normally with a USB cable through my computer, is that dangerous as well? Normally how much current passes through USB cable?

well, the elecricity coming to teh cell is DC and not ac, and they are designed to fail in a safe manner. I dont think that it can pass enough electricity to induce a 'thud'

In that case he should've been jolted even if the phone hadn't been connected to an AC outlet? If it was in the US, with 110 volts nothing really happens, even if u put ur finger on a live AC connection.

Its just an excuse to make for what can happen.... and yes even this is not required if Allah wants smthng to happen to him.

I got a Nokia from Pacific Mall and the adapter looks different; however, there's another bit of adapter attached to it, so that it is functional in North America.

I wonder if it'd be safe to use it while charging. Actually, I do talk on the phone quite often while the phone is charging.

USB operates at 5V (DC) that should be of no concern, current would depend on load..

I guess that adapter is for fitting, and not 'stepping up/down' the voltage so you should be alright. Just make sure you read the power ratings on the back. As for talking on the phone while charging is concerned, nokia is a very reliable company, Im sure they have passed all the safety tests in flying colors.

I hate those earphone extensions and I never use them. One reason, they keep falling out of my freakin’ ears. Second reason, they make me look like a retard who is talking to himself. And we all would rather die of electric shocks than being made to look like retards in public. Thank You.
